ABOUT GCASA – ALBION

Through its four treatment facilities in Genesee and Orleans Counties of Western N.Y., Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (GCASA) provides a range of substance abuse treatment services for individuals struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders.

This review focuses on the center located in Albion, a community 30 miles west of Rochester. The Albion location provides outpatient treatment programs for adults, prevention-focused services for adolescents, and an employee assistance program (EAP). The GCASA facility located in Batavia offers residential, sober living, and outpatient services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

GCASA provides adults with a “Call Today. Be Seen Today” policy, which allows clients to schedule same-day substance abuse assessments. According to the facility’s website, assessments last approximately 90 minutes. After the assessment, a clinical team confers to develop an individualized treatment plan.

GCASA’s adult outpatient programs are designed to address the underlying social, mental, and emotional contributors to addictive behavior while equipping clients with techniques to prevent relapse. While GCASA adheres to an abstinence-based approach, the facility’s website states that the outpatient program also helps to manage relapses in a “timely and constructive manner,” minimizing the impact of the relapse on the individual and loved ones.

To better treat its clients, GCASA provides a number of specialized group sessions to address specific issues or concerns. Groups include women’s-only sessions, opiate-focused treatment, compulsive gambling sessions, groups for individuals with a co-occurring disorder, and more. GCASA also encourages clients to incorporate 12-step participation into treatment.

GCASA also offers prevention-focused programs and services for adolescents. Programs include “Accountability Circles,” an educational, two-hour session designed for adolescents ticketed for underage drinking or who are experiencing behavioral issues in school.

In coordination with local businesses, GCASA also facilitates no-cost employee assistance programs (EAP) for adults experiencing professional and personal difficulties due to substance abuse or emotional problems. Designed to find solutions to these difficulties, EAP involves professional counseling sessions with the employee and family members.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the center’s website, GCASA of Albion’s outpatient sessions are facilitated by a team of qualified substance abuse counselors, most of whom are Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC).
