Valley Hope

Valley Hope Cushing Oklahoma

Valley Hope’s 70-bed treatment center in Cushing, OK, is located midway between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Housed in a stately mansion on a large acreage overlooking the city of Cushing, the center provides a rural, relaxed setting to ensure a comfortable atmosphere for healing. Much of the architecture and structure of the mansion remain as they did in the late 1920’s with limited renovations which simply enhanced the grounds even more for those seeking treatment.

ABOUT VALLEY HOPE – CUSHING

Valley Hope began operations in Kansas in 1967 and now has 16 locations throughout the Midwest. Located between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Valley Hope in Cushing offers residential substance abuse treatment for adult men and women ages 18 and older. Medically monitored detoxification services and family care are also available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All clients are assessed when they arrive for treatment — the facility uses the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Patient Placement Criteria to determine admission.

Treatment programs are individualized, and length of stay varies for each client. Most stay between 17 and 30 days and receive more than 40 hours of clinical treatment per week, including individual counseling, group therapy, family and couples counseling, spiritual counseling, addiction education, and 12-step work. Residents are also taken to local Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings off-site.

Some clients receive medication assisted therapy (MAT), which combines behavioral therapy with medication designed to help ease withdrawal symptoms, usually from opiate-based drugs.

A big emphasis is placed on family at Valley Hope. Family programs include specialized small groups, educational lectures, and individual counseling sessions. Family members are also given access to an online, anonymous forum where they may share feelings about their loved ones’ experiences with treatment, as well as get information about the correlation between addiction and family dynamics.

Intensive outpatient (IOP) and continuing care are available through other locations in the network, which may consist of between one and nine hours weekly of similar programming.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Staff consists of counselors, chaplains, physicians, nurses, and psychologists.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility can accommodate up to 72 residents, all of whom live in the center’s large, family-style brick mansion. Every client has a roommate. There are no private rooms available. Alumni reviews for Valley Hope Cushing are highly positive. Most former clients liked the rehab’s no-frills, 12-step approach. More than a dozen alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility mostly four or five out of five stars for all 15 aspects of the program they evaluated, and agreed that the rehab offered a supportive staff, effective coping skills for maintaining long-term sobriety, and a compassionate environment. M.R. told Best-rehabs.com that it was “like being with family… the atmosphere was very healing and cheerful.”

The only consistent complaint was the need for more holistic and extracurricular activities: the 11 alumni who evaluated the facility’s holistic offerings gave it a below-average rating of 2.55 out of five stars, and alum S.M. wrote that there were “No accommodations to attend church.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Seven of the eight loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing had high praise for the facility. They cited the compassionate, nonjudgmental treatment toward both clients and loved ones as a major strength. “The councilors would walk around during free time and if they saw a patient or family member struggling with emotions or each other, they would try to talk to them and help them figure out the problem,” a family member named L.M.R. told Best-rehabs.com.

The staff’s level of experience earned 4.4 out of five stars from five reviewers polled on the subject, and the family involvement offered by the program received a near-perfect, 4.6 stars.

One anonymous Best-rehabs.com reviewer complained that the program lacked focus on mental health issues and gave Valley Hope Cushing just two stars for its treatment effectiveness. The reviewer remained neutral when asked if they would recommend the facility.

  • Our son was there for 6 wks. and he got treatment that he needed . When he was released he came out with a better out look on life. He had the tools to cope with his addiction . We spend one week going through the same treatment he did and we also had the tools to help us cope with addiction, We were very happy with the facility in the way they did the treatment. We were also happy with the results. The facility was kept clean. All the staff members were friendly , through, helpful and were there to help every one.

  • I have been a patient at Valley Hope Cushing twice and when I relapsed I did not hesitate for a second on deciding where to go. When I got there the first time I was confused about what to expect and withdrawing pretty bad and received immediate and always compassionate care from the nursing staff. Everyone there from the Program Director down to housekeeping, maintenance and the kitchen staff were always willing to do anything they could to help us. The counselors were amazing... very insightful , compassionate and caring. Mine could read me so well that I'd never play poker with her. After 3 days of detox we were allowed to sign out and leave the property for up to 3 hours a day for AA, NA meetings a Wal Mart trip or whatever. After my relapse I arrived there with my tail between my legs feeling a lot of guilt and shame about what I had done and having to come back but all I heard was that they were glad that I was there and that they were happy to help me. The food was almost always good with a few dishes that I personally did not like and there was plenty of it. The facilities were very nice with a library, TV room and a nice patio to hang out on. There is a Recreation Committee among the patients that come up with activities. If your insurance cuts you off financing is available w/o a credit check, mine was at 6% unsecured. This is not a mental health facility, they deal with addiction but do look for and at underlying problems. All in all I'd recommend VH to anyone with an addiction problem, it is a very compassionate facility and I've never been hugged so much in such a short period in my life.
I bonded with the other patients more than the staff. Everyone is welcoming and supportive. Three years clean and I don't regret a minute or a dollar I spent at Valley Hope.

  • Decent treatment but terrible uncaring Director at Cushing. No accommodations to attend church. Kitchen not able to provide adequate alternatives for vegetarians. Wouldn't even add beans to salad bar. Was told I could pay out balance after insurance, but corporate office said no and turned me to a debt collector. Regret going to this facility because of the stress now. A shame, because the treatment was decent.

  • This facility allows its patients the freedom to leave daily, any visitor can visit, and outside communication is free. Thus, it doesn't feel like a psych ward or jail. His facility has a physician that only comes once per week and has a medical detox unit. I saw a physician once for less than 20 minutes. He preserved me a lot of medications that I had never been prescribed. I was found unresponsive, had a seizure, and by the time I had some awareness when the ambulance arrived my blood pressure was 54/52. They continued to try to administer the same medications that caused this. I checked myself out on the sixth day. I didn't eat for two days because no one brought food or woke me up for mealtimes. In six days, my room and linens were never cleaned, the trash was overflowing, and the facility was old and run down. Aside from 12 step classes, there is no recreational activities. Anyone off the street can walk in so there is no security. I have been denied my own medical records since I left. Valley Hope warehouses people, over medicates them, and collects insurance and private pay dollars. If you want your loved one to come home in a body bag send them here. IF NOT STAY AWAY!!! This facility is old and in need of cleaning and repair. There is nothing to do for recreational activities, and their Physician is only there once per week. I almost died due to their overmedicating me. The indignant treatment post their negligent conduct is unconchenable. There are much nicer and better treatment facilities. Spend your money elsewhere!!

  • They are willing to assist and are friendly, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. However, it is expensive and few people are able to attend, They need to expand the insurance acceptance policies. They have a lot of group and one on one therapy which is important. Have many sources of support upon discharge. Very good at teaching coping skills and teaching tools to help u succeed when u leave treatment the staff is very knowledgeable.

  • This program was like being with family. Staff and clients included. The atmosphere was very healing and cheerful. Trust was given until a reason to not trust was shown. A client could leave campus for 2 hours with family or another client after the initial 72 hours detox time. Smoking was allowed. It was a wonderful program.
