ABOUT HIGHLAND RIVERS HEALTH – POLK RECOVERY AND WELLNESS CENTER

Highland Rivers Health, one of Georgia’s largest healthcare providers, offers mental and behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and adults. The Polk Recovery and Wellness Center in Cedartown provides an intensive outpatient (IOP) program for adults struggling with substance abuse. Case management services are also available. Detox services are offered through Polk’s crisis stabilization program, which is located in a separate unit.

The Polk Recovery Center is operated by Highland Rivers Health, and is one of 12 statewide locations: other notable facilities include the Bartow Recovery and Wellness Center in Cartersville, the Whitfield Recovery and Wellness Center in Dalton, and the Floyd Recovery and Wellness Center in Rome).

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Highland Rivers Health employs a three-phase approach to its substance abuse IOP, with each phase lasting one to two months. As clients progress, they gradually decrease the amount of hours spent in treatment each week, while increasing the time spent in 12-step meetings. Throughout the duration of their treatment, all participants must have their attendance verified and submit to random drug tests.

Clients can expect to spend a good portion of their day at Highland Rivers learning about addiction, developing coping mechanisms and life skills, and learning about 12-step principles. Group therapy is attended two to four times weekly. Length of treatment is typically 13 to 26 weeks. The IOP also provides medication management, if needed.

Family participation is highly encouraged and loved ones can be included in a client’s treatment plan at their request.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, it employs a “team of board-certified psychiatrists, a board-certified addictionologist and certified addiction counselors.”
