ABOUT PYRAMID HEALTHCARE – ALTOONA DETOX AND INPATIENT TREATMENT CENTER
Pyramid Healthcare’s Altoona Detox and Inpatient Treatment Center in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, is one of our many treatment centers throughout the state. We provide exceptional treatment for individuals struggling with substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders.
Detox services are available for both teens and adults, and adults may access both long and short-term residential care. Additionally, we offer specialty programming for women, clients struggling with problem gambling, and individuals with involvement in the criminal justice system.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Before beginning treatment, all clients undergo an initial assessment and receive personalized treatment recommendations. Clients who require medical monitoring for withdrawal symptoms begin their stay in detox, where they have access to 24-hour nursing care, pain-relieving medication, and therapy.
Once stabilized, adult clients typically move on to our residential program, which offers both short and long-term treatment. Inpatient treatment is highly structured and based on 12-step principles. Clients participate in various forms of therapy, including individual, family, and small group counseling, as well as experiential therapy. Furthermore, residents receive education on the disease of addiction and learn coping and life skills to aid in relapse prevention. Our team provides psychiatric care, medication management, and case management as needed. It is important to note that our facility maintains a highly structured schedule for patients.

The treatment team at our Altoona location includes licensed medical professionals, a registered dietitian, and a certified experiential therapist.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Our treatment facility provides co-ed treatment, but residents stay in gender-specific housing and sleep in shared, dormitory-like bedrooms that typically accommodate two clients. Some suites house three people at a time. Residential facilities also feature a designated fitness area. Additionally, we provide transportation to the treatment facility for our clients.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni reviews sourced by Best-rehabs.com are mixed. When asked how likely they were to recommend the facility to others, the nine alumni surveyed provided an average rating of 3.78 stars. Evaluated factors that received positive ratings included the program’s affordability and the staff’s level of training and experience, which received respective ratings of 3.67 and 3.56 out of five stars. One alum noted that a majority of the staff and Techs were great. Another reviewer appreciated the staff’s hands-on approach.
However, the facility’s cleanliness and practices were subject to criticism from multiple alumni. One alum described the facility as dirty and gross, while another found the accommodations to be too crowded. Some alumni also expressed dissatisfaction with the facility’s connectivity/visitor policy and counseling options. Some found the programming to be monotonous, while others appreciated the structured approach.

Reviews provided by three loved ones were also mixed. When asked how likely they were to recommend the facility to others, they gave an average rating of 2.7 out of five stars. One respondent noted that they would recommend the facility, while another felt that their loved one was released too early. The third reviewer did not feel that the treatment program was effective and criticized the staff’s knowledge.
WHAT STAFF SAY
The one staff member surveyed by Best-rehabs.com (who disclosed that they had been fired) provided a critical review of the center’s programming. They described the nursing staff as competent, but had several concerns about the therapists’ knowledge and techniques. They also felt that the doctor prescribed ineffective levels of medication and questioned the facility’s goals and approach to treatment.
