ABOUT THE HEALING PLACE – WOMEN AND CHILDREN’S CAMPUS

Founded as a homeless shelter in 1989, the Healing Place operates three substance abuse treatment and recovery centers. Its facility for women and children, located in Louisville, Ky., offers a multi-phase residential program, which includes on-site, non-medical detox. The center is among eight substance abuse treatment facilities in the state that do not accept payment for services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Healing Place provides an environment and treatment model that empowers participants to support one another throughout recovery. Following an initial detox phase, which lasts from three to 10 days, clients are guided through the “Off the Streets” motivational phase, during which they learn core principles of 12-Step, work with peers, and begin to accept that addiction is a disease with a spiritual solution.

The “Recovery” stage focuses on teaching personal accountability and developing interpersonal skills. Afterwards, they may become peer mentors, lead lessons, coordinate assignments, and provide one-on-one guidance to others.

In all, residential alcohol and drug treatment typically lasts six months. Graduates may move to transitional living for approximately three months.

  • Very disappointed. Called the healing poscr, as they state they have 24 hour care free. I wanted information to help get a family member to detox. I was told not the "not so friendly " person who answered that she couldn't go there cause she wasn't in the county. So she transferred me to another lady, who was nice, but realized I needed to be talking to the person who transferred me. So then sent me back and hung up after a 10 minute hold. So after that the initial encounter, I don't think I'd want my loved one there. And lastly, aren't the majority of people who are so in need of drug detox and help without a real home? So whether she lived in Jefferson county or not I don't think that should matter. I definitely won't be an advocate for raising funds for this organization. Very bad to false advertise such compassionate care Called on june 22nd, 2018 mid day.

  • This place is effective. However most of the facilities 250 women are incarcerated or D.O.C.(department of corrections.) They get priority. In fact, if you are not D.O.C. you are not even guaranteed a bed but instead will most likely sleep on a mat on the floor. The amenities are horrible. Expect to feel incarcerated .

  • Treats overnight visitors with complete disdain at times. Mean, condescending, liars, rude, and unequal treatment than those in their program. Do NOT recommend for those trying to get sober in the overnight part. I've relapsed due to the monitor 'S treatment of me.
This facility is an amazing experience! i have definitly missed it after leaving it changed my life and i learned the tools about myself to keep me sober daily. Thanks to all staff and personnel who were always great assistance

  • This place saved my life and my families lives. When you take away the drugs and alcohol you still have those bad behaviors that could possibly lead you back to the drugs and alcohol. This is a behavior modification program and it is long enough to sit down and really realize what you want for your life. The staff was awesome the director has been through the program so she knows how to handle alcoholics. I have been sober since the day I came to the healing place. Thank god for the healing place.
This is a horrible facility run by a former addict who has no business running a facility of this magnitude. This facility needs a business professional who has established a program that is fair to all the women in the facility. She wields power over these women and uses it in a deamening way. She beats these women down. She is not an encouraging person. Also, the rating system they use to define their success is bogus. They only evaluate the women who have graduated the program and their success. What about all the women who never finished? To all of the wonderful doctors who established this facility. Your kindness and generosity is what made The Healing Place. I beg you to evaluate your director, she is horrible. Please talk to the women in this facility confidentially and you will see. My hope is that the Board of Directors sees this and contacts me. I will call you and confirm by multiple sources several situations that you will be appalled by.
Strengths: They are strict when it comes to outside contact. It is very limited. None allowed the first week. Weaknesses: Retention. People can sign themselves out. I wish they worked harder to make them stay. While only there for 6 days , my sister has remained clean the following 2 weeks . So far so good.
I have found that this is a place with questionable treatment plans. Rules change daily and nobody is treated equally. You are punished as a group for another person's error. In treatment you are suppose to be responsible for your own choices not for others. And when did the homeless have better treatment then the ones who are there trying to get help???

  • Once you went through detox, you gradually felt like you were joining a Sisterhood or family. Mostly everyone worked for the greater good and helped one another. A downfall was the inner city program that has off-site classes each day. ... I loved the camaraderie among the staff and clients. I knew I could reach out to any one of them. There was a group of us who started around the same time, and we formed a group for daily morning inspiration from AA and NA publications. Everyone is very supportive of your need to be clean.

  • I have struggled to get sober for years. I attended MANY rehabs, IOPs, detox facilities, doctors, psychiatrists and more. I can say with 100 percent confidence that this is the BEST treatment facility there is out there. People leave the Healing Place SOBER and stay SOBER. All of my peers are still sober. Besides-its FREE. No cost at all. What could anyone have to loose? Thank God for it.

  • 30 day programs are a joke. The drug needs to be removed & the addict has to learn how to live life in a positive way and look into his soul to find and face his pain for himself and deal with it. Best treatment Center. This facility is a non-profit shelter in Louisville and its the best treatment center I've come in contact with. They deal with the whole person not just the addiction itself.
