Founded in 1981, the Boonville Valley Hope facility offers residential addiction treatment for men and women ages 16 and up. The facility takes a 12-step approach to recovery, and combines AA’s principles with psycho-educational and small-group counseling to give each client a solid foundation for long-lasting sobriety. Family support and education is also provided, as is a plan for continued care long after treatment is complete.

Nonprofit Valley Hope operates 16 residential and outpatient treatment facilities spread throughout seven states. Valley Hope – Boonville, founded in 1981 and located in central Missouri, midway between Kansas City and St. Louis, offers medical detox, residential treatment, and continuing care for adults ages 16 and older.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment at Valley Hope – Boonville begins with a consultation with a qualified admissions counselor and addiction specialist. Clients are assessed for their individual needs, and enrolled in the appropriate programs. Clients needing detox services begin the detox program and transition to the residential program once completed.
Treatment uses the 12-Steps in a multidisciplinary program that aims to address clients’ physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs. Valley Hope follows the disease model of addiction, and aims to provide compassionate, understanding care. Clients participate in individual and group counseling. Spiritual services are also included, as well as medication assisted treatment as needed.
Clients also participate in educational coursework to learn more about addition and coping methods. Education courses are led by leaders that are active in the 12-steps program and have completed rehab as well.
Valley Hope advises a 30-day stay in residential treatment, but allows for variation depending on the client’s needs. The average length of stay is 17 to 30 days. Most clients begin with the residential program and move to continuing care services as a step-down process.
Family participation is encouraged throughout treatment. Family therapy and small group sessions are made available to clients that need to rebuild their family connections. Family addiction education courses are also available.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The Valley Hope – Boonville is staffed 24/7 by trained medical personnel. The treatment team consists of counselors, chaplains, physicians, nurses, and psychologists supported by nurses. The counseling staff is certified. The facility is accredited by the Joint Commission.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facilities at Valley Hope – Boonville include a wooded, eight-acre campus with semi-private, cottage-style housing around rolling hills. Photos published on Valley Hope’s website indicate that there’s a chapel or prayer area on-site.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, 10 alumni of the Boonville Valley Hope facility were polled by Best-rehabs.com. Feedback was mostly positive.
Alumni gave three out of five stars or higher for the facility’s family programming and the staff’s level of training and experience, and in their comments they repeatedly praised the staff. “Very caring and understanding,” wrote alum Russell in a representative review. Reviewers were also very impressed with and grateful for the aftercare provisions. “My counselor has kept up with my progress and after a year clean you get to go back for a ceremony that celebrates your clean time. They really help you with an aftercare plan,” alum Allison wrote.
Yet alumni also indicated a lack of extracurricular activities. Reviewers gave lower ratings for its holistic options, and the few complaints received tended to cite factors such as “limited exercise options” or “too much down time.” One alum also objected to the “forced spirituality,” and C.H. described an unhappy experience with an “inept admissions person” in which they were turned away at the door.
On Google, Valley Hope earned four five-out-of-five star reviews. [Footnote: (1)] Alumni praised staff and treatment effectiveness. In a representative Alum Tim wrote: “Valley Hope is exactly as the name suggests…a placed filled with HOPE. The staff is very invested in the wellness of their patients.”
WHAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY SAY
There has been two reviews from loved ones about Valley Hope. One review was positive while the other was very negative.
One loved one gave five out of five stars for the overall quality, counseling options, pricing, level of staff support, and pricing. This loved one gave only three out of five stars for accommodations and amenities, meals and nutrition, and exercise opportunities.
The other loved one gave two out of five stars for treatment effectiveness and accommodations and amenities, with only one out of five stars for meals and nutrition. The anonymous loved one complained about the high cost and the food. “You cannot heal the mind and body while eating sugar, dairy, gluten, processed meats, etc.,” she wrote before adding “They do not teach outside of their AA box.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
Two staff members were of Valley Hope’s Boonville location were polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing. One gave positive feedback, while the other gave negative feedback.
One gave five out of five stars for most of the evaluation metrics, including treatment for co-occurring disorders, the staff’s level of training and experience, respect for clients’ privacy, and staff loyalty to patients’ best interests. The other staff member gave two out of five stars or lower for the available counseling options, affordability, connectivity/visitor policy, meals and nutrition, and holistic treatment offerings.
FINANCING
Valley Hope is in-network with many insurance and managed-care providers, but it does not accept Medicare or Medicaid. A limited amount of client aid is available, and payment plans can be arranged.
