ABOUT GENESIS PROGRAMS, INC.

Founded in 1993, Genesis Programs, Inc. operates two outpatient facilities northwest of Los Angeles, in Thousand Oaks and Ventura, for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility accepts both entry-level clients and those stepping down from residential care at another facility. Detox is not available on site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Genesis Programs, Inc. focuses on providing outpatient care through various programs. Each client enrolls in the program that best fits their needs, and can use them as a gradual step-down process. The facility coordinates a preliminary bio-psycho-social assessment for each client to determine their individual needs at the beginning of the treatment process.

At both of its locations, Genesis offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). The PHP meets for six hours, five days a week; the IOP for three hours, four days a week. The average length of stay in treatment is eight to 12 weeks.

A “transitions” IOP program is also available for those who wish to re-enter community life more promptly, with 10- and 20-hour educational tracks that provide education about alcohol, drugs, and addiction, without any therapeutic component.

Genesis prioritizes evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, cultural diversity, and an unconditional positive regard for clients that’s intended to improve self-esteem and a greater openness to experience. In the most fundamental terms, programs boil down to education, individual counseling, group therapy, and family counseling, consisting of a weekly multi-family session.

All clients and their families are also encouraged to participate in 12-step programming throughout treatment. Medication management may also be available for those with co-occurring mental health concerns.

Aftercare services are partially provided by the alumni association. The group regularly hosts events for alumni members in an effort to keep their community together and accountable for sober living practices. It also promotes the reintegration into the community with the support needed to maintain a sober lifestyle.
