Vantage Point Recovery, located in Thousand Oaks, Calif., offers outpatient treatment and supportive housing to adult men and women struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental illness. Vantage Point is a unique, family-run facility that has been in existence since 2001. The facility places a focus on the co-occurring conditions that underlie many addictions. Vantage Point offers progressive abstinence as part of its programs, which is a model of treatment that allows clients to achieve sobriety “at a pace that is healthy and in line with their treatment plan.”


The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive, highly structured program designed to stabilize individuals and help them return to a basic level of functioning and abstinence. The program runs Monday through Friday and consists of more than 30 hours of treatment per week. Treatment methods include dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). Additional treatment methods offered include yoga, meditation, relapse prevention, anger management, spiritual psychology, life skills workshops, and more. Psychiatric services are also available.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week and provides the same treatment methods as the PHP.


The treatment team includes a psychiatrist and clinical director, along with a licensed marriage and family therapist, an art therapist, and mindful living specialists.


Supportive housing is located in nearby Ventura County. According to the facility’s website, the homes offer semi-private bedrooms, recreational common areas and outdoor spaces, and allows clients to bring pets. Three meals are provided daily, including a home-cooked dinner.


At the time of this writing there has been one alum polled by The anonymous reviewer gave the facility excellent marks in nearly every category. The alum gave the facility five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, five stars for accommodations & amenities, and did not comment on meals & nutrition. D.L, who’s between 26 and 39 years old, entered rehab with a dual diagnosis based on a medical referral. D.L. stayed for over 90 days, completed treatment successfully, and did not enter sober living after leaving the facility. The anonymous alum has been out of the facility for 6 to 12 months and agreed the facility was worth the cost. D.L. reported that he relapsed after leaving the program and re-entered the facility. The alum said he would recommend Vantage Point to a friend or loved one considering rehab.

On the facility’s Google page, which it cannot manage, there is an overall rating of five out of five stars based on three total reviews.1 On the facility’s Facebook page, which it can manage, there is an overall rating of five our of five stars based on eight total reviews.2 Staff and family members alike have excellent things to say about vantage point. Staff member L.K., who gave five stars, called the program “heart-centered,” saying “I would send my own loved ones here without hesitation if the need arose.” . B.J., a loved one, supported that viewpoint. He gave five stars and wrote, “I am so grateful to Vantage Point and what it has done for my son…it is obvious that the work they did with him saved his life.”


The cost of treatment at the facility is not published. According to Vantage Point’s website, the facility is contracted with Kaiser Permanente insurance and also accepts some other PPO insurance plans such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and Cigna.
