ABOUT CHEMICAL ADDICTIONS RECOVERY EFFORT (CARE)
Chemical Addictions Recovery Effort (CARE) in Panama City, Fla., is a nonprofit organization that serves six counties and provides detox and outpatient care to adult and adolescents dealing with substance abuse. CARE also provides residential treatment for adult women and adolescents.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The detoxification unit at CARE can accommodate 14 adults and one adolescent at a time. Detox typically lasts three to nine days and involves group therapy, 12-step meetings, and medication management.
The residential program, A Women’s Addiction Recovery Effort (AWARE), provides care to women 18 and older for up to 60 days. AWARE is a 13-bed facility that participates individual and group therapy, drug education groups, family groups, and alcoholics anonymous (A.A.) and narcotics anonymous (N.A.).
The SOS (Starting Over Straight) program for adolescents 13 to 18 years old includes a mandatory educational program. Admission is referral-based. Treatment includes individual and group therapy, multi-family groups, drug education, and 12-step groups. Home passes are granted at specific phases of the treatment program. Family participation is highly encouraged.
Outpatient treatment is available for adults and adolescents and begins with a comprehensive assessment. CARE has a three-phase outpatient program for individuals involved in the court system.
CARE also provides prevention programs and drug free workplace seminars.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
CARE employs full-time addiction counselors, a program development manager, a family intervention specialist, and resident nurse.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
CARE’s AWARE residence for women can accommodate 13 clients at a time. The 14-bed residence for adolescents aged 13 to 18 years old requires clients to participate in daily physical activities. CARE’s facilities are monitored 24 hours a day.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The sole loved one responding to a Best-rehabs.com poll to date gave positive feedback for CARE’s Panama City location. The loved one gave five out of five stars to the facility’s level of family participation and counseling options and four out of five stars to its treatment effectiveness, affordability, and experienced staff.
The anonymous individual gave the lowest rating of two out of five stars to holistic offerings at CARE. “I think they were fair on visitation but feel phone calls should be allowed sooner,” the reviewer commented.
On CARE’s Facebook page, which the facility can manage, three reviewers gave perfect ratings of five out of five stars.
WHAT STAFF SAY
The sole staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com to date indicated that they would recommend CARE and gave four- and five-star ratings to the facility’s treatment effectiveness, cleanliness, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. They gave low two-star ratings to the facility’s exercise and leisure options and holistic offerings. “Good place for support,” they wrote, “not enough activities to keep the clients entertained.”
Three employees gave four and five out of five stars on Indeed. One anonymous substance abuse counselor commented: “Enjoyed the clients and learned from them just as they learned from me.”
FINANCING
Outpatient and detoxification fees are based on a sliding scale. CARE is funded through local departments, donations, and client fees. Two individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave four out of a possible five stars to CARE’s affordability.
