ABOUT NEW RIVER WELLNESS CENTER
A small and intimate facility in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., New River Wellness Center offers a variety of gender-specific services for men and women struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility’s programs range from early intervention assistance to outpatient services and aftercare. Medically-assisted detoxification is available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
New River Wellness Center takes a strength-based, holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally diverse approach to treatment, according to its website. It also adopts the 12-Steps and encourages clients to work through the steps with a sponsor. Programs for men and women are completely separate with men focusing on anger management and other outward expressions of denial while women focus on dealing with more inward feelings of guilt and shame.
Upon entering New River Wellness Center, both men and women receive a full psychiatric evaluation. If necessary, the on-site psychiatrists may recommend medication-assisted therapy via naltrexone, an anti-craving agent for opioids or alcohol.
There are three key programs at the facility: a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and an outpatient program (OP). Clients of the PHP and IOP can reside at the facility’s sober living residences while they receive treatment, and the typically length of stay ranges from 30 to 45 days.
The main modalities of treatment, regardless of the program, include relapse prevention coaching, life skills training, group, family, and individual therapy, as well as yoga, acupuncture, and expressive arts therapies. For dual diagnosis treatment, the facility uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
After treatment, the facility encourages clients to participate in its alumni program and act as mentors for those still going through treatment.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The facility employs psychiatrists and master’s-level clinical therapists, as well as expressive arts therapists, acupuncturists, and dieticians, according to the center’s website.
