ABOUT CORE CENTER OF RECOVERY
Center of Recovery (CORE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to adult men and women facing challenges with gambling addiction. Located in Shreveport, LA, CORE is operated by the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling and offers residential treatment, intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, and continuing care to its clients. Please note that our facility does not provide substance use treatment or detox services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Prior to admission, clients are subjected to a comprehensive evaluation conducted either in-person or over the phone. This assessment enables us to gather information about their backgrounds and symptom profiles.
Our treatment program includes various components such as Gambling Anonymous meetings, goal setting meetings, and process groups. In addition, clients engage in group therapy sessions from Mondays to Saturdays and receive individual therapy. We also prioritize education on money management and require dedicated study time for the “Red and Blue Book.” Although personal time is limited, clients are granted time for in-house community service on Saturdays and movie viewings on Sundays. On average, treatment will last for 28 days.
For Intensive Outpatient Treatment, clients are expected to attend sessions four times a week. We encourage the involvement of loved ones during Friday sessions. As CORE does not have daily medical staff or detoxification licensing, we refer clients struggling with other addictions to appropriate substance dependence treatment facilities.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team at CORE is led by an executive director who supervises certified addiction counselors. Our staff consists of certified counselors with PhD and masters-level qualifications.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Situated in a peaceful environment with a garden and yard, CORE is housed in a welcoming and comfortable residence that can accommodate up to 21 adults. Most clients will have shared bedrooms, although a private room is available for individuals with handicaps. Additionally, clients have access to a laundry room. The facility typically maintains a gender-balanced ratio of residents.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
M.G.C., the sole alum surveyed by Best-rehabs.com thus far, described CORE as a “house of miracles” and emphasized that the facility had saved their life.
On the facility’s Facebook page, which is managed by the facility itself, there have been numerous positive reviews from 12 alumni to date. CORE has received five out of five stars from 11 reviewers and four out of five stars from one reviewer. In a representative review, alum Tami stated, “CORE was a lifesaver. The counselors and administrator were so caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable!”[1]
Although alum Trudy rated the facility with four out of five stars, they expressed concerns about the aftercare provided by CORE. Trudy mentioned, “I have been very shocked that no one from CORE has called to check on my recovery process since leaving.”
FINANCING
CORE does not accept insurance or provide financial assistance. However, at the end of treatment, the facility will supply an invoice that clients can submit to their insurance companies for potential reimbursement. It’s important to note that Louisiana residents can receive treatment at no cost.
