ABOUT GLENWOOD LIFE COUNSELING CENTER

Located in Baltimore, Md., Glenwood Life Counseling Center provides a range of treatment services for adults struggling with chemical dependency, particularly opioid addiction. The facility offers medication-assisted therapy (MAT), comprehensive case management, counseling services, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Glenwood Life Counseling Center provides ambulatory detoxification services through its MAT program.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission into the program, clients participate in an initial substance abuse assessment to identify client needs and to ensure that the MAT program is an appropriate level of care. The center utilizes methadone to help curb opioid cravings and alleviate symptoms associated with withdraw. In most cases, the center utilizes MAT in addition to other treatment services. The facility states: “Medication coupled with counseling, peer support, and case management will help to ensure recovery from the disease of addiction.”

While methadone helps to treat the physical dependency of opioid addiction, the facility also provides treatment services to address the emotional and psychological aspects of addiction. If a client requires a heightened level of care, the individual may be referred to the facility’s IOP. IOP involves participating in three or four treatment sessions per week. These sessions include individual counseling sessions, as well as issue-specific counseling groups. The facility offers gender-specific groups, symptom management groups, groups on coping and self-management skills, and anger management groups. Along with counseling, IOP involves “drug free” social activities, which may include luncheons, field trips, and art therapy sessions.

To help clients succeed within the community, Glenwood Life Counseling Center also provides comprehensive case management. Case management is provided by peers in long-term recovery and may include referrals to additional substance abuse or mental health resources, assistance with health insurance applications, employment searches, G.E.D. testing, and location of appropriate housing. To assist in client recovery, family members are encouraged to participate in treatment and care coordination whenever possible. The center also facilitates family and marital counseling.
