TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Appointments are generally required for behavioral health and medical treatment at Baltimore’s Health Care for the Homeless. However, walk-in service is available in some cases of clients needing to begin therapy immediately. Substance use screenings are offered at each HCH clinic.

Outpatient substance abuse treatment at this facility is evidence-based and takes a harm reduction, disease approach to addiction. The HCH website highlights the staff’s non-judgmental care. Psychiatric treatment is typically provided via individual therapy sessions, complemented by medication prescribed by an agency doctor. Addiction services are offered in both one-on-one and group settings.

Among regularly scheduled support groups are ones addressing trauma and holistic recovery activities, including yoga, art expression, and smoking cessation. HCH also offers an alumni group for clients who have completed a series of addiction management curricula. Naloxone training is provided in weekly addiction recovery groups, to counteract overdoses.

The central Baltimore facility is accessible by several public bus lines.
