ABOUT KOLMAC CLINIC – BALTIMORE

Established in 1973, Kolmac Outpatient Recovery Centers operates six alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers in the Baltimore, Md., and greater Washington, D.C., metro areas. The facility in Baltimore offers outpatient-based treatment services for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. It also provides detox and sober living support outpatient services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To begin treatment, clients undergo an initial substance abuse assessment to determine their appropriate level of care. Those that need detox are referred to the detox program. Others are referred to the rehabilitation program.

The detoxification process may utilize antabuse, campral, and naltrexone (Vivitrol) for alcohol withdrawal and buprenorphine (Suboxone) and Vivitrol for opioid dependency. Detoxification typically lasts three days for alcohol and up to several weeks for opioids. Although residential services are not available, the facility can house several patients for up to 10 hours each day to be supervised if necessary.

The rehabilitation phase of outpatient treatment – intensive and traditional outpatient programming (IOP/OP) – usually involves 20 to 30 sessions over the course of seven or eight weeks. Clients attend group therapy and education sessions for three hours each day for five days per week initially, then less frequently after several weeks. Kolmac Outpatient Recovery Centers utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in group counseling, led by two staff members with up to 15 clients. Participants focus on developing skills in coping with triggers, rationalization, and relapse mapping. Clients with co-occurring psychiatric disorders receive medication management as needed.

After primary treatment and rehabilitation, the facility offers continuing care, which involves a weekly group session that spans several hours. In addition, Baltimore operates a specialized continuing care group for IOP alumni in the medical health care professional field.

The organization strongly encourages clients to join community-based support programs, such as 12-Step. Both during and after a client’s treatment, family members are encouraged to attend a weekly on-site support group to learn coping and support techniques.

Kolmac Outpatient Recovery Centers is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
