Eastern Shore Psychological Services

Eastern Shore Psychological Services (ESPS) is a regional, community-based mental health treatment provider that offers outpatient-based services to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with psychiatric disorders. One of four treatment locations, the facility in Salisbury, Md., in the state’s Eastern Shore region, also provides treatment for individuals struggling with chemical dependency or co-occurring disorders. The treatment provider operates facilities in the nearby communities of Easton and Princess Anne. The Salisbury facility does not provide detoxification services.

To provide individualized treatment, clinicians initially perform a psychiatric assessment, and if needed, substance abuse evaluation. According to ESPS’s website, the biopsychosocial evaluation and a comprehensive report helps to identify “strengths, challenges, and recommendations.”

To address psychiatric conditions, ESPS facilitates individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Treatment is individualized, multidisciplinary, and follows evidence-based practices. Along with counseling sessions, ESPS provides ongoing psychiatric evaluations and medication management. The facility also offers case management to coordinate community support, services, and resources for clientele.

ESPS also offers a specialized program for DUI offenders that meets the State of Maryland’s requirements for potential driver license reinstatement. The 12-hour program consist of six weekly two-hour classes. If an initial DUI assessment determines that the individual is dependent on alcohol, a 26-week treatment program may be recommended.

ESPS employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of physicians, psychiatrists, licensed social workers, and licensed professional counselors (LPCs).

Although Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date, secondary sources revealed a generally positive consensus regarding ESPS as an organization. On ESPS’s official Facebook page, which the facility can manage, 27 reviewers to date gave the facility an average 3.9 out of five rating, with 20 positive reviews and seven negative.[1] On Google, two reviewers to date rated ESPS three and four out of five stars.[2]

Many reviewers felt staff was a strength of the facility. In a representative review, alum Felicia wrote: “The staff in Salisbury is wonderful. They go above a beyond for their clients. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.” Alum Greg added: “This is a fantastic center to go for all types of psychological services and their social workers and counselors are top notch.”

Nonetheless, a vocal minority complained that waiting times were too long, and one alum wrote: “staff is rude”. In a representative review, alum Alexis wrote: “This place worries more about insurance and time. They never return phone calls. Very sad to see when people really need the help.”

The sole staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com to date had mixed opinions of the Salisbury facility. Although the anonymous survey respondent rated the facility a perfect five stars in family participation and four stars in treatment effectiveness, they rated it only two stars in holistic treatment offerings, exercise and leisure options, and connectivity and visitor policy.

On Indeed, two former interns and a former employee to date rated ESPS as an organization a perfect five stars.[3] In a representative review, one intern wrote: “All the employees were very friendly and seemed to cultivate a positive work environment.”

DUI/DWI classes cost a total of $600, including the assessment. Payment can be split into separate installments during the program. According to its website, “ESPS does not deny services based on inability to pay.”
