ABOUT DISCOVERY HOUSE
With 18 locations throughout Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Maine, Discovery House provides outpatient treatment services clients seeking treatment for opiate addiction. This facility in Waterville, Maine, offers services for adult men and women, including medication-assisted therapy. Detox is not available on site.are also available through treatment programs.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment at Discovery House begins with a call, email, physician’s referral, or walk-in at the facility. Discovery House notes on its website that it makes every effort it can to accommodate potential clients within 24 hours of their first contact. Clients complete the admissions paperwork and complete an evaluation by trained medical personnel.
Treatment focuses on opiate addiction using the disease model of addiction. Medication management and therapy activities are used to facilitate treatment. Methadone, Buprenorphene, Suboxone, and Vivitrol are available for treatments. Clients also participate in addition education courses. Periodic drug screenings are used to promote sobriety during treatment.
Clients participate in regular medication management sessions combined with talk therapy and alternative therapy practices. Clients can participate in counseling for specialty fields including HIV, nutrition, and drug free counseling.
Educational courses focus on sober living skills. Clients participate in courses that teach coping skills as well as life skills needed to maintain their sobriety.
Follow-up, aftercare, and family services are made available through treatment programs. Clients are encouraged to work with planning counselors to develop a support network and plans for maintaining sobriety after treatment. Clients can continue to participate in treatments as well as community-based groups to facilitate sober living.
Discovery house is CARF-accredited, licensed by the state, certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency. There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Michelle, the one former client polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing, gave the Waterville facility a mostly negative review. While she noted that she was able to get right into the program without having to wait, Michelle gave the clinic just three out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, writing: “I felt like… going there had been a waste of my time.”
She gave three out of five stars for its exercise and leisure opportunities, the staff’s level of training and experience, the level of family participation in treatment, and holistic offerings. She gave only one out of five stars for affordability. Despite this, she would recommend the program to others.
On Google, Discovery House earned an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars from 10 reviews to date.  Alum praised the staff members and called them “nice,” “helpful,” “friendly” and “courteous.” In a representative review, alum Stephanie wrote: “I personally think that the staff here is amazing. the nurses are awesome and don’t make you feel like just a number. they know and remember the names to every face that comes in.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
The two former staffers surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility mixed reviews.
B.D. noted that while the clinic was too focused on money, it was “probably one of the better ones in the area.” The other staffer wrote that while the location was convenient, the facility did not offer a lot of treatment options. The staff member polled on additional metrics such as treatment effectiveness, accommodations, counseling options, and the level of family participation in treatment gave each of these metrics ratings of three out of five stars.
Treatment at Discovery House costs $95 per week, and is all-inclusive. Some private insurance carriers are accepted. The facility’s admissions staff can verify insurance coverage for clients.
