SHAR is dedicated to empowering individuals to take control of their lives. Through decades of helping thousands of people, we have discovered the age-old irony that one can only regain control of their life after learning to let go. This is where the problem lies – letting go, or stopping. Whether it is alcohol, heroin, cocaine, prescription drugs, or any combination of these or other substances, SHAR is here to help you begin the process of change. We teach and show you how your thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors contribute to and perpetuate your problems, and how working with us can provide a way out.
ABOUT SELF-HELP ADDICTION REHABILITATION, INC (SHAR)
Self-Help Addiction Rehabilitation, Inc. (SHAR) was founded in Detroit, Mich., in 1969 as a small support group led by a priest and two individuals in recovery. Today, we offer comprehensive human services to clients in the greater Detroit area, including those struggling with substance abuse issues. Our treatment programs include residential treatment, outpatient treatment, transitional housing, case management, and other community services. We also provide treatment for clients with co-occurring mental health conditions, and medical detox is available on site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The first level of treatment is subacute detox, which typically lasts between three and five days for clients who need it.
Once clients have detoxed, they may proceed to SHAR’s residential or outpatient recovery programs. In residential treatment, clients receive a personalized treatment plan that identifies triggers and offers insight into relapse prevention. The duration of treatment varies, but residents may remain on-site for up to 120 days.
Outpatient care is gender-specific and includes community-based group sessions and individual counseling. In addition to outpatient treatment, SHAR provides transitional housing facilities and case management services for those in need of additional support, such as primary health care or transportation.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
There is limited information available on our website regarding our day-to-day staff. Our CEO is a social worker and certified alcohol and drug counselor, and our treatment team is led by a medical director who is board-certified in addictive medicine.
