We treat drug and alcohol addiction as a chronic and progressive medical disease that affects the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of individuals and their families.

At Bear River Health, we offer a medically supervised detoxification program that safely manages the painful symptoms that accompany withdrawal. Our twenty-four hour medical staff utilizes the Evidence Based Practice Protocols established by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration).

Our inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs offer several different, well established, individualized treatment modalities aimed at improving compliance and reducing the risk of relapse.

ABOUT BEAR RIVER HEALTH AT WALLOON LAKE

On a five-acre campus surrounded by the natural beauty and tranquil waters of Walloon Lake in Northern Michigan, Bear River Health offers medically monitored detox, residential care, and outpatient services for individuals struggling with substance abuse.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, Bear River Health’s detox program is supervised by medial staff 24-hours a day. The treatment center utilizes medicine to help residents safely and comfortably detox. Detox typically lasts three to 10 days.

Bear River Health’s residential program is offered at durations of 30, 60, or 90 days. The treatment center’s goal is to treat each clients’ physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Residents attend group classes every day, and programming includes individual therapy sessions and family therapy. The center’s program is built around the 12-Steps, which it supplements with group therapy, weekly family days, and unspecified evidence-based methods.

The center’s holistic offerings include yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and art therapy, as well as the more unusual offerings of spiritual development sessions and talking circles. The center’s website also lists such treatments as “Wellbriety” and “Integral Recovery,” but does not describe what these are.

Individuals in the intensive outpatient program (IOP) meet for a full day, three days a week. IOP is a good options for clients who lack insurance or financial resources for residential treatment.

Bear River Health also offers group and individual counseling on an outpatient basis.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Bear River Health’s website notes the treatment team includes a licensed physician, nurses, clinicians, therapists, and support staff. The lone alum surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave five out of five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience. “The staff is great,” they wrote.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Bear River Health at Walloon Lake can accommodate up to 25 residents at a time. According to the center’s website, residents sleep in simple, modern bedrooms, some of them private, and food is prepared by an on-site chef. Since the facility is on a remote, rural campus, residents have the freedom to wander the grounds unsupervised.

Smoking is permitted in designated areas. Residents may also keep their phones with them, and there is free WiFi on-site.

To date, the six individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com provided an average 4.7 out of five stars for accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The five alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive feedback. Four alumni gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness.

The other alum didn’t provide a rating, however they left positive commentary. “We had fires at night, and I met lots of great people. Nothing like a jail. I love this place, and it saved my life,” they wrote.

The only alum who rated multiple metrics gave four stars when asked if they would recommend Bear River Health at Walloon Lake. They also gave five stars for multiple metrics, including the staff’s level of training and experience, its treatment of co-occurring disorders, and counseling options.

“Great help from all the staff. food could be better. If you have a problem with drugs or alcohol this is the place to go. Very helpful,” an alum wrote in a representative review.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The four loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback. They all gave four or five stars for treatment effectiveness.

“Saved my son’s life very compassionate and knowable. Half the worker,s are recovering Alcoholic’s or addicts. They were able to relate to the patients problems,” a parent wrote in a representative review..

The only loved one who provided a somewhat negative review gave three stars when asked if they would recommend the treatment center. “I wish i had had the option to see other options first, i would have chosen dufferently,” they wrote.

FINANCING

According to the center’s website, Bear River Health offers financial assistance covering up to 80 percent of the cost of treatment. The program also accepts a range of major insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and Value Options. The four individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the center’s affordability gave it an average rating of four out of five stars.
