ABOUT SYRACUSE BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE: THE WILLOWS INPATIENT REHABILITATION PROGRAM

Part of Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare, the Willows Inpatient Rehabilitation Center provides short-term inpatient treatment for adults struggling with chemical dependency, as well as those struggling with co-occurring mental health concerns. Located in Syracuse, N.Y., the facility also operates an on-site medical detoxification unit.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Before beginning treatment, clients may participate in an initial substance abuse history assessment and psychiatric evaluation, if indicated. If the client requires medical detoxification before admission into the inpatient program, individuals may be referred to the facility’s 25-bed detoxification unit. According to the facility’s website, medical detoxification includes medical supervision and care, individual and group counseling, and bed rest. The average length of medical detoxification ranges from three to 14 days.

The Willows Inpatient Rehabilitation Center utilizes a range of evidence-based approaches to treat its clientele. During the short-term inpatient program, clients participate in a highly-structured schedule of group and individual counseling sessions to address any underlying factors that may contribute to addictive behavior. The facility also offers a specialized program track for individuals with co-occurring mental health concerns, which may involve ongoing psychiatric evaluations, specialized support, and medication management. Family dynamics counseling may also be incorporated into programming.

Along with counseling sessions, clients attend educational classes on a range of topics, including the effects of chemical dependency, relapse prevention techniques, stress management, and anger management. According to the Willow’s website, self-help groups, such as 12-Step, play a role in overall programming. In addition to its evidence-based programming, clients also participate in a range of recreational therapy activities, yoga sessions, exercise classes, and acupuncture treatments during the inpatient program.

Typically, the inpatient program lasts between three and six weeks, depending on the needs of the individual. Once a client completes the inpatient program, clinicians may encourage individuals to utilize Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare’s other resources, such as their supportive housing facilities and outpatient-based programs.

At first resisted treatment quite a bit, but once I gave in it involved me. The staff really will help you if you want it, and overall it is a laid-back environment. For people who really want to get help, I would recommend it.
