ABOUT NOVANT HEALTH FORSYTH MEDICAL CENTER

Located in Winston Salem, N.C., the behavioral health unit at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center provides inpatient treatment for individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders and substance use. Inpatient care is usually short-term, but personalized to meet the needs of each client. The unit also offers outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP) programs, and medical detox is available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, residential programming includes individual counseling, group therapy, addiction education, coping skills workshops, medication management, and recreational therapy.

The treatment center specializes in women’s behavioral health issues, aiming to dissolve the stigma that often prevents women from reaching out for help.

The center also employs some innovative tactics to better assist clients. There is a 24/7 crisis response team who work to stabilize individuals experiencing substance abuse-related crises. The outpatient center utilizes telepsychiatry and makes house calls through a mobile crisis team.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center’s website indicates the treatment team is comprised of psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, psychiatric technicians, registered nurses, and specialized counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility’s website notes the rehab program is located within a hospital. Therefore, potential patients can expect a more clinical environment. Reviewers polled by Best-rehabs.com to date provided mixed reviews for accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mixed reviews. One alum, Q.R., who received treatment in 2007, gave the accommodations and amenities strong ratings, but felt the treatment was lacking. “It gets you newhere,” they wrote.

An anonymous alum issued a slightly more favorable review. They disliked the food and felt that the staff over-prescribed medication, but still gave their treatment an overall score of four out of five stars, noting the “nice facility.”

The 136 people who left reviews for the treatment center on Google at the time of this writing provided an average 2.7 out of five stars, although many of those applied to the facility outside the behavioral care unit.[1]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing also provided mixed feedback.

An anonymous family member felt that the staff was unresponsive and unconcerned with the welfare of their family member. This reviewer issued only one out of five stars in metrics evaluated such as the accommodations and amenities, meals and nutrition, holistic offerings, the staff’s level of support, cleanliness, and family involvement. They wrote: “PATIENT CONCERN WAS NOT THEIR TOP PRIORITY,” citing that once insurance stopped coverage, they discharged the client without concern.

The other loved one gave four stars when asked if they would recommend the treatment center, and five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience. “Work with families to help understand,” they wrote.

FINANCING

According the facility’s website, some financial assistance is available. After the hospital bills Medicare and/or the primary insurance company, clients are responsible for any unpaid amounts. Self-pay is also an option, and there are some discounts for those who are uninsured.
