ABOUT DILWORTH CENTER FOR CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY

Dilworth Center for Chemical Dependency in Charlotte, N.C., has provided treatment services for alcohol and drug addiction since 1990. The facility, located in the historic Dilworth neighborhood south of downtown, has a separate intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults, as well as ones for young adults and adolescents to ensure age appropriateness. Once completing treatment, clients can access an aftercare relapse prevention program, as well as a specialized aftercare program for nurses. The facility also offers the Dilworth Kids Program for addiction prevention and education for children ages seven to 14.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Prior to admission, each client undergoes a complete assessment to determine the most beneficial level of care and services. Treatment at Dilworth Center relies heavily on the 12-Step model.

The adult and young adult IOPs are divided into Level I and Level II, with varying lengths. Level I consists of lectures and group therapy on topics such as the disease model of addiction and dual-diagnosis, as well as 12-step meetings. Level II expands on Level I, reinforces 12-step principles, and teaches clients relapse preventions strategies. Individual counseling also is part of the offering, on an as-needed basis.

While the adult and young adult IOPs are 15 and 17 weeks, respectively, the adolescent IOP is 18 weeks. Treatment includes disease and coping skills education, 12-step work, group therapy, and individual counseling. Parents and guardians are required to participate in the family and systems treatment module.

In all of the IOPs, family members are encouraged to attend education sessions, group therapy, and 12-step groups. The aftercare relapse prevention program requires a 12-session commitment and includes group and individual therapy.

Dilworth Center for Chemical Dependency Reviews

I believe Dilworth Center is one of the best, if not The Best treatment center in the NC/SC area. The staff believes in what they do and they believe in doing what is best for the patients. If Dilworth Center doesn't work for you, it has to be because you fought the program, felt you knew better or didn't want to take any accountability for your part. These are all very hard things to do, but if you do them and follow the rules set by the staff and truly want to get better, Dilworth Center is the best place to accomplish that goal!
Overall it was good. Held accountable for actions, including drug testing throughout. Knowledgeable staff. Group settings were not helpful for me.
Treatment EffectivenessI liked the lectures. Nice building. Counselors were egotistical. As a parent, they made me feel bad. They were argumentative to me. They were argumentative to my child. Told my child that she should not be living with us. Made my child feel worse than when she first entered this place. Expelled my child after a few weeks. Might work for some people but not for us.
Utterly terrible place... They do nothing but make you feel worse. Counselors are egotistical and woefully unequipped to handle much of anything...
