ABOUT NEW DIRECTIONS INC
In operation since 1981, New Directions, Inc. is a provider of comprehensive treatment programming for adolescents with substance abuse disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns. The facility also accepts pregnant adolescents. Located in Pepper Pike, Ohio, the facility offers gender-specific residential programs, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and traditional outpatient programs. New Directions does not provide medical detoxification services on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Prior to treatment, clients undergo an initial assessment to develop an individualized treatment plan. New Directions, Inc.’s programming combines evidence-based treatment methods with experiential therapies, educational classes, and family involvement. Clinical treatment helps identify factors that may contribute to addictive behavior, while experiential therapies promote healthy lifestyle changes.
New Directions employs evidence-based treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). Individual and group counseling sessions aim to identify destructive thinking and behavior patterns, encourage open communication, and foster peer support. Gender-specific programs address common issues among male and female adolescents in recovery.
In addition to counseling, residents attend educational classes on the consequences of substance abuse, coping skills, and developing support networks. Residents with a dual diagnosis have access to psychiatric care, including mental health assessments, specialized counseling, and medication management.
Family involvement is a crucial part of New Directions’ programming for adolescents. Family members are required to participate in the residential program twice weekly, including multifamily groups, family counseling, and parent education. Music and art therapy, fitness and exercise sessions, and off-site recreational outings are also included in the treatment.
Once residents complete residential treatment, they may be recommended to enroll in one of the facility’s outpatient programs for a supportive continuity of care. These programs offer counseling sessions, educational classes, and access to the recovery app called Ascent, which provides peer recovery coaching.
