ABOUT CEDAR RIDGE ACADEMY

Cedar Ridge Academy is a private boarding school located in Roosevelt, Utah. Situated in the rural foothills of a mountain and in close proximity to a national forest, the facility has been providing academic, behavioral health, and substance abuse treatment for troubled teens (boys and girls ages 12 to 17) since 1996. Clients receive integrated residential care that allows them to continue their academic development while undergoing treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Please note that medically assisted detox is not available on site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Cedar Ridge Academy implements a comprehensive treatment approach that combines cognitive and physical therapy methods, academic development strategies, and an immersive residential program. The program aims to correct problem behaviors and promote healthy living through a holistic mental and physical approach. A positive peer environment is emphasized, where residents support one another. The teenage residents’ experiences are structured and supervised to foster emotional, physical, behavioral, social, and intellectual development. The duration of treatment is typically nine months, although it can vary based on individual and family goals.

Treatment begins with an initial assessment conducted by the intake staff to determine the appropriate level and type of care. Each client is assigned a primary therapist who provides one hour of individual and family counseling per week. Clients also participate in several hours of small group therapy per week, focusing on specific issues such as substance abuse, relationships, grief, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Additionally, larger group meetings are held with the entire campus or individual dorm members.

Cedar Ridge Academy offers a range of physical education and development options to promote healthy physical growth. Clients can participate in various extracurricular activities, including sports and hobby classes. A specialized form of exposure treatment involving Shotokan Karate is also available to promote self-control, discipline, and physical training.

Educational and therapy workshops addressing key relationship and skills development concerns are scheduled throughout the year. Staff members, family members, and clients participate in these workshops. Parents are also invited to attend workshops at least three times per year.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Cedar Ridge Academy’s treatment team comprises three licensed marriage and family therapists, as well as a trauma and physical therapy specialist. All staff members hold degrees in their respective fields and possess additional certifications. Academic personnel with appropriate training and experience are available to assist with academic training during treatment.

It was a loving place where a family owned the facility. We were very happy with how it was run at the time but it has been a number of years since we had contact with them. We have referred a number of people there who have also sent their kids.
