ABOUT CEDAR RIDGE ACADEMY
Cedar Ridge Academy, a private boarding school in Roosevelt, Utah, is located in the rural foothills of a mountain and close to a national forest. Since 1996, the facility continues to provide residential academic, behavioral health, and substance abuse treatment for troubled teens (boys and girls ages 12 to 17). Clients may undergo treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders while continuing their academic development in an integrated residential environment. Medically assisted detox is not available on site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Cedar Ridge Academy uses a combination of cognitive and physical therapy methods, academic development strategies, and an immersive residential program to treat clients. It is a holistic mental and physical approach to correcting problem behaviors and promoting healthy living. The program emphasizes a positive peer environment where residents support each other. In addition, the teen’s experience is structured and supervised to promote emotional, physical, behavioral, social, and intellectual development. The approximate length of treatment is nine months, although this varies depending on the goals set by the individual and family members.
Treatment begins with an initial assessment with the intake staff to determine the type and level of care needed. Each client is assigned to a primary therapist who provides individual and family counseling one hour per week. Clients also participate in several hours of small group therapy per week, focusing on specific issues such as substance abuse, relationships, grief, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). There are also larger group meetings with the entire campus or individual dorm members.
Cedar Ridge Academy also offers a range of physical education and development options to promote healthy physical development. Clients can participate in a range of extracurricular activities, including various sports as well as hobby classes. A specialized form of exposure treatment that is available uses Shotokan Karate as a method of promoting self-control, discipline, and physical training.
Educational and therapy workshops are scheduled throughout the year where staff members, family members, and clients address key relationship and skills development concerns. Parents are invited to participate in workshops at least three times per year.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
According to the facility’s website, the treatment team at Cedar Ridge Academy consists of three licensed marriage and family therapists, as well as a trauma and physical therapy specialist. All of the treatment team’s staff members hold degrees in their respective fields as well as other certifications. Academic personnel with the appropriate training and experience are available to help with academic training during treatment.
