Prosperity Wellness Center (PWC) offers gender-specific treatment programs for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders for women. Services include individualized care, addiction education, group and individual counseling, coping skills, stress reduction, relapse prevention, mindfulness practices, 12-Step groups and communication skills.
ABOUT PROSPERITY WELLNESS CENTER
Operating for over 20 years and located in Tacoma, Wash., Prosperity Wellness Center (PWC) is a state-funded recovery center that provides residential care for adult women struggling with substance abuse, gambling, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Medical detox is not offered on site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients participate in an initial assessment to identify individual concerns and help clinicians form an individualized treatment program. According to its website, PWC focuses on creating a recovery process that interrupts the addiction cycle and promotes balanced living. The program is founded on the ideals of empowerment, goal setting, problem solving, and education.
Programming primarily entails of group and individual counseling sessions that address a range of concerns that may contribute to maladaptive behavior. Along with topics common among women struggling with addiction, counseling sessions also address grief, trauma,, panic and anxiety, stress reduction techniques, self-esteem building, communication, and relapse prevention.
In addition, the facility incorporates the 12-step model of recovery. During treatment, clients attend on- and off-site 12-step meetings, read fellowship literature, and perform associated “step-work” through counseling sessions and educational workshops.
PWC also offered educational programs for loved ones to include family members in the recovery process. The program also aims to promote healthy living through mindfulness exercises and relaxation techniques. Before the client is discharged from the facility, each client leaves with a personalized plan for continuing care.
According to the facility’s website, staff consists of nursing staff, recovery coaches, mental health professionals and chemical dependency counselors. Information sourced through a Best-rehabs.com survey suggested that the facility offers an all-female staff. At the time of this writing, the eight individuals polled on the staff’s level of training and experience offered an average rating of 3.38 out of five stars.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Prosperity Wellness Center sits on a tree-lined, suburban street on the southeastern outskirts of Tacoma. Cell phones and non-recovery reading materials are not permitted on-site. The facility is tobacco and smoking-free, only nicotine patches are allowed. The eight individuals polled on the facility’s cleanliness at the time of this writing gave it an average rating of 4.13 stars.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the over dozen alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date, most gave PWC positive reviews. However, alumni tended to appreciate some aspects of the facility more than others. Five alumni polled on the matters gave a 3.6 average rating for likelihood they’d recommend the facility to others, though offered a more moderate 2.6-star average for the facility’s counseling options.
More than one reviewer appreciated the all-female space, and several noted that they felt respected and cared for. “The facility I went to was a all female facility… I felt comfortable and safe to talk about anything,” Amy wrote. Alum Chantelle added: “The ladies at Prosperity treat you like a person and not like a bad drug addict.”
A common criticism was the lack of holistic offerings, and four alumni polled on the matter gave this aspect of the facility an average rating of 1.25 stars. “They depended wholely on lecture and aa and na meetings,” one anonymous alum wrote. Another added that they had insufficient meetings with their counselor, and two alumni noted personal clashes with rude staff members.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The four loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave moderately positive opinions of the facility, with one exception. Concerning the amount of family participation, one anonymous loved one offered a four-star rating, while two other loved ones both gave three-star ratings for this aspect of the facility.. Two loved ones also praised the facility’s staff. “The staff are kind and want you to succeed,” one anonymous love one wrote. Another loved one added: “Support was great.”
However, loved one Sara felt the facility did not last long enough to be effective. Offering a one-star rating for the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders, Sarah wrote: “Not long enough stay should be long term”
PWC accepts Department of Social and Health Services medical coverage, including SSI, TANF, and Apple Health Care (Alternative Benefit Plan). Medicare, Medicaid, and self-payment are also accepted.
