ABOUT PROSPERITY WELLNESS CENTER

Operating for over 20 years and located in Tacoma, Wash., Prosperity Wellness Center (PWC) is a state-funded recovery center that offers residential care for adult women facing substance abuse, gambling, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Please note that we do not offer medical detox on site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

When clients are admitted to PWC, they participate in an initial assessment to identify individual concerns and create an individualized treatment program. Our goal at PWC is to interrupt the addiction cycle and promote balanced living. Our program is based on empowerment, goal setting, problem-solving, and education.

Our programming primarily consists of group and individual counseling sessions that address various concerns contributing to maladaptive behavior. Our counseling sessions cover topics common among women struggling with addiction such as grief, trauma, co-occurring mental health concerns, panic and anxiety, stress reduction techniques, self-esteem building, communication, and relapse prevention.

We also incorporate the 12-step model of recovery into our program. During treatment, clients attend on- and off-site 12-step meetings, read fellowship literature, and work on associated steps through counseling sessions and educational workshops.

PWC also offers educational programs for loved ones to involve family members in the recovery process. We also aim to promote healthy living through mindfulness exercises and relaxation techniques. Before clients are discharged from our facility, each client receives a personalized plan for continuing care.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Our staff consists of nursing staff, recovery coaches, mental health professionals, and chemical dependency counselors. We take pride in having an all-female staff. The level of training and experience of our staff received an average rating of 3.38 out of five stars from individuals who completed our survey.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Prosperity Wellness Center is located on a tree-lined suburban street on the southeastern outskirts of Tacoma. When asked about likelihood of recommending the facility to others, five alumni gave an average rating of 3.6 stars, while the facility’s counseling options received an average rating of 2.6 stars.

Several alumni appreciated the all-female space and felt respected and cared for. One alum wrote, “The facility I went to was an all-female facility… I felt comfortable and safe to talk about anything.” Another alum mentioned that the staff at Prosperity treats clients like individuals rather than “bad drug addicts.”

One common criticism was the lack of holistic offerings, with an average rating of 1.25 stars from four alumni. • the staff claims that they are #1 the best inpatient treatment in Washington State but with the staff who claims to be a supervisor but is extremely rude. I am 33 years old and It was my first time in treatment I was not on my medications and was having a hard time controlling my anxiety and my head was throbbing I was literally having a panic attack. The staff member felt I was being rude but I continuously said I was not trying to be rude or disrespectful but she continuously argued with me to the point I was given my bags and told to leave. I am very shocked that a staff member who works in a inpatient facility that claims to be #1 and helps people work threw trama and grief can not even act grown enough not to argue with the clients and even after I told her that I appologize and I am having anxiety issues and I am not on my medication she still insisted on standing there telling me I was talking to her rude and disrespectful then telling me to pack my things and leave... I do not recommend this facility to anyone who has anxiety depression or any mental health disabilities...

  • Overall Prosperity is focused on continual improvement of patient care. The services are adjusted and reviewed to ensure the daily care process is client oriented and personalized to the needs of the individual. Each admitting client is assigned to a primary clinician who will act as their guide during their service stay. All staff carry training in dual diagnosis care, with more than fifty percent of staff holding dual licensure-- as well as having an onsite Psychiatric ARNP. The clinical team is fully integrated team who all work to create a client centered experience. Currently Prosperity offers opportunity to develop use of mindfulness strategies, use of holistic grounding. However would like to move towards further inclusion including use of holistic offerings within client free time and leisure activities.

  • I was amazed to find out that when a family member attended, that she only met with her counselor once and that their idea of nutritious and delicious meals consisted of mixing powdered milk with water for your morning cereal and beans and ketchup mixed is chilli. This is definitely not the place it is made out to be. For being an all female institution yet the patients that have sexual issues meet with the male owner is not acceptable in my opinion.

  • very little, it was disorganized and understaffed only got to see a one on one counselor 4 times in 30 days. little to no recreation. treated like a jail yet I voluntarily went there. I was desperately disappointed I was 50 years old and yet was not allowed to go to the bathroom when I needed to. they depended wholely on lecture and aa and na meetings. There was also some shenanigans between the women that was unacceptable and it seemed like the staff looked the other way.

  • I would have given five stars except for the fact that the staff was beyond rude when returning my phone call about my stuff that I had left there... then proceeded to say I hope you have a wonderful day. Yeah right, like I'm gonna have a wonderful finding that out. It was just completely rude.

  • My sister was the patient, not myself. At the beginning of this survey it asked if I or anyone close to me had been in treatment, she was in treatment right after being arrested. This program did turn her around, temporarily at least, she needs help again I believe. I cannot rate this program past what she told me, or what I witnessed. The staff are kind and want you to succeed. The meals are pretty good my sister said. She obviously received the help she needed and was able to return to her life better off than when she was admitted. Can't bring ipods, laptops etc, they told my sister none could be brought.

  • Informative classes. The counselors were very helpful and understanding to my addiction and wanting to get help. The classes that they offer are excellent in so many ways, they explain in a way that you understand. If you have medication that you have to take, that are very professional at distributing your medication to you. The ladies at Prosperity treat you like a person and not like a bad drug addict.

  • The facility I went to was a all female facility. It made it easy for me to talk about being molested as a child. I felt comfortable and safe to talk about anything. There was also a separate facility for mothers with children. It was the best experience of my life. It helped me overcome my abusive past and gave me the tools to succeed in my future.
