Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab

ABOUT DUFFY’S NAPA VALLEY REHAB

Nestled on 23 acres in picturesque Napa Valley, Duffy’s is less than two hours’ drive from both San Francisco and Sacramento. Founded in 1967 and named after its founder, Gene Duffy, this family-run business offers residential treatment and step-down outpatient care for individuals struggling with substance abuse. Detox is frequently arranged via a local detox facility.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment begins with an initial assessment to determine a person’s medical and treatment history. Though it is not a dual diagnosis facility, those struggling with a co-occurring mental health disorder may be admitted if they are stable. The standard residential program lasts 30 days, but the center also offers an extended recovery program, offering stays of 60 or 90 days. There’s also a shorter relapse program for those who have already completed a primary residential stay.

Treatment is based on the 12-Steps, which are supplemented by individual and group therapy, medication management, discharge planning, and experiential therapies such as meditation, art therapy, and music sessions. Being a family business, Duffy’s emphasizes the role of the family in successful recovery, and offers family sessions every weekend.

Duffy’s offers 90 days of one-on-one aftercare support and a year of free follow-up sessions for any client graduating the residential program. Outpatient programming includes a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (IOP), which are also offered as step-down care for individuals graduating the residential program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Duffy’s is a family business, currently on its fourth generation of family leadership. Aside from family members, the facility employs numerous counselors whose credentials are not disclosed, but some of whom are themselves graduates of the Duffy program. The four individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility is an attractive, traditional family home, with extensive well-kept grounds. Inside, there are simple, cozy bedrooms (both private and shared), space for yoga, and a dining room; outside, there’s a swimming pool, patios, water features, and tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Of the 10 reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com to date, eight were positive, one was mixed, and one was negative. The reviewers repeatedly praised the center’s food, the location and environment, and the counselors. “I was treated with such loving care, they have an experienced chef to make us healthy meal 3 times a day, 7 days a week,” Bernice wrote in a representative review. In isolated comments, C.M. wrote that the center was “cheap by other facilities’ standards,” and Dennis praised the center’s continuing care and contact after treatment.

“This is no medical facility, and without access to a doctor, this whole thing is a hoax for money. Be prepared to be bored and get ignored in a very bad way,” John wrote in the only outright negative review; John also cited rude staff and difficulty seeing clinicians. And in a mixed review, Michael wrote: “I think they should provide counselors who advocate alternatives to the 12 step model.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of the five reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com to date, four were positive and one mixed. There was little overlap between the reviewers’ comments. “Helps the person with the treatment as well as the family,” one anonymous reviewer wrote, and another echoed alumni by praising the center’s scenery and atmosphere. “Large staff but It was way too expensive,” an anonymous reviewer wrote in the only less glowing review.

WHAT STAFF SAY

Both staffers polled by Best-rehabs.com to date spoke positively of Duffy’s, both referring to the “miracles” they had seen at the facility. “Duffys has existed since the 60’s. I’ve seen so many miracles happen there! Its a homey atmosphere. you don’t feel like you are in a institution. The setting is magnificent,” Kit wrote in a representative review.

FINANCING

Duffy’s is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and accepts all PPO policies on an out-of-network basis. The center also accepts self-payment, and can arrange financing for those with good credit.

Duffy’s Napa Valley Rehab Reviews

The staff will say whatever they need to in order to get people in. They will tell them to do dishonest things and make promises they will not keep. Once you enter the facility they begin to go back on their word, change things, and use the excuse "everyone is treated equal."" They are not compassionate and their therapists are 3rd rate at best. The meetings follow the same 12 step program and they offer no creative options and have no real plan for when people leave. They treat their ""clients"" like trash. This place is horrible and medical insurances should not cover this place under their plans. Read other reviews on Yelp and you will see many people share in what I saw and experienced first hand. The only good thing was the meals and kitchen area were pretty good and offered a nice variety.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR MONEY UP FRONT!!!!! They will tell you that you will get reimbursed but you have to do it yourself if your insurance is slow pay. That they will help you with everything and they didn’t. They strung me along believing my insurance had coded it wrong. They took my 30
