ABOUT VALLEY HEALTH ASSOCIATES

Located in Salinas, Calif., Valley Health Associates is an outpatient treatment facility serving individuals struggling with addiction and substance misuse disorders. Methadone detox and maintenance are the central focus of services. Additionally, individual and group counseling are integrated with the medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program.

Valley Health coordinates services with federal court and prison programs and is a nonprofit organization, which comprise 54.9 percent of treatment facilities in California.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, Valley Health’s MAT program is rooted in an individualized and evidence-based treatment approach provided in a safe, caring and supportive environment. Both the 21-day detox program and one-year maintenance program include a physical examination with a staff doctor.

While in treatment, clients receive daily methadone dosing, regular drug screenings, and counseling services. During the course of treatment, clients are given referrals to relevant community support services, including 12-step meetings and employment assistance.

According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, Valley Health is one 216 treatment facilities (15.1 percent) in California to offer medical detoxification and one of only 241 (16.9 percent) to offer methadone maintenance. The clinic also offers HIV testing on-site.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

In addition to a medical doctor, treatment team members include master’s level therapists, certified alcohol and drug addiction counselors and technicians, and licensed vocational nurses.

According to the facility’s website, the MAT program at Valley Health Associates is licensed, accredited, and operated in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulatory guidelines. Additionally, MAT is one of only 371 treatment programs (25.9 percent) in California to be fully accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Best-rehabs.com has not yet received any feedback from alumni as of this date, secondary review sites yielded unanimously positive reviews.

On the facility’s official Facebook page, which staff can manage, Valley Health received four five-star ratings and a single four-star rating.[1] “Well managed, providing quality care for all in need,” wrote Linda in a representative review. On Yellowpages.com, a single reviewer gave the facility four stars. Though they noted that there were some inconsistency with drug testing procedures, they also wrote that “they will work with you.”[2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole survey response received by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing from a loved one, Jo, was very positive overall. They provided perfect five-star ratings for the level of staff support provided and all aspects of counseling evaluated, including flexibility in available approaches.

However, they rated opportunities for family involvement in the treatment process only three stars. They also noted that they thought treatment should be longer, writing that “there is no other way to even begin treating the disease until one has been clean for at least 30 days.”

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, detox treatment costs $425 and methadone maintenance costs a monthly rate of $425. Medi-Cal is accepted.
