ABOUT EMPIRE RECOVERY CENTER, INC.

Founded in 1971, the nonprofit Empire Recovery Center (ERC) offers social detox, residential, and outpatient treatment in Redding, a mid-sized city in northern California. The organization also operates a separate outpatient clinic nine miles north in Shasta Lake. Treatment is available to adult men and women aged 18+.

The treatment center’s detox program is social-only, meaning that clients are monitored but not prescribed medications.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, programs last 30, 60, or 90 days.
The programs are oriented around peer support and a community-based treatment model. The treatment center utilizes the 12-Steps.

Programming includes individual and group counseling, gender-specific groups, and life skills training sessions. The center aims to prepare its clients for life after treatment through vocational readiness training and opportunities to participate in fun, sober recreation.

For families, there are informational sessions and support groups. The center also uses moral reconation therapy (MRT) — a treatment that aims to reduce recidivism and criminal behavior — when appropriate.

Outpatient treatment, often offered as step-down care, consists of individual and group therapy.

ERC also offers a program for Veterans called Recovery Rangers, which emphasizes nutrition, strong mental health, and increased individual responsibility.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to ERC’s website, the organization is staffed by certified addiction specialists (CASs), many of whom are in recovery themselves. The four individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it an average rating of 2.5 out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. However, the four individuals surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave an average 3.25 out of five stars for cleanliness and 3.4 stars for accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mixed feedback. One alum indicated they would recommend ERC and the other would not — though the latter reviewer gave the center three out of five stars for its overall effectiveness and four stars for its counseling options.

“We were self governing with oversight from staff,” an alum wrote in a positive review. “The director felt that we needed to learn how to live, eat, make decisions, establish routines.” Debbie also stressed that ERC was a no-frills center.

At the time of this writing, secondary review sites yielded positive feedback. The 20 people who left reviews on the center’s Facebook page, which it has the ability to manage, provided an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars.

“Gives you the tools you need to save your own life! Staff that truely cares& willing to take the time it takes!! So greatful,” Tracy wrote in a representative Facebook review.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Of the three loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com to date, two would not recommend treatment at ERC, and one remained neutral on this question — though all three reviewers gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness.

Loved ones repeatedly praised the center’s 12-step facilitation. Yet, they gave three and two stars respectively for the staff’s level of training and experience.

They also gave one and two stars for holistic offerings, and two and three stars for counseling options and its treatment of co-occurring disorders.

“Staff not well trained in depensing medication in a timely fashion. Residents with ankle braclets bring down the program because they are there only to get out of jail not to recover,” a loved one wrote.,

“Counslers were inept at dealing with people problems with each other within the program,” another loved one wrote.

WHAT STAFF SAY

At the time of this writing, the two former employees who left ratings on Indeed gave five out of five stars.

“The work environment was wonderful, the staff works together very closely… ERC is all about values, and is a top notch treatment center,” one former program coordinator wrote, though they added that the pay was low due to the center’s nonprofit status.

FINANCING

According to its website, ERC accepts private insurance. The four individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the center’s affordability gave it a three-star average rating.

Empire Recovery Center Reviews

I Spent 2 1/2 Days At Empire For Alcohol Detox. Paid $455.00 Cash. I Was Taken To A Upstairs Room. No Counseling! I Was Brought Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner. I Went There For Help. Not To Be Put Under Lockdown. I Sincerely Pray And Hope For Those Suffering From Any Addiction Are Able To Get Treatment Elsewhere.
My experience at Empire Recovery Center inpatient residential was wonderful. It's not easy keeping addicts/alcoholics in order. My opinion is they at all levels are courteous and professional. I would with all my heart recommend then to anyone, even my worst enemy. God bless the ERC and I thank them for their service.
I needed a drug evaluation for the courts. I went to Empire for the evaluation. I am a recovering addict. I do not use alcohol, and have been sober for almost 4 years. I left the evaluation with a 13 page ‘evalualtion’, that said I needed treatment and had (have) a problem with alcohol. Was told this was not the persons fault who did the eval, but rather someone who got ‘let go’ for ‘fudging’ evals. FYI—take your business elsewhere, honesty does not run hand in hand here. I now have a warrant in the town I grew up in, and NO ONE at this facility wants to help rectify the situation. Do not ask these people for help, they could care less. They get to spend the holiday with their families and don’t have warrant because a LCT wrote up an evaluation that is not true, and she knows it’s not.(if she didn’t , there would not have been an attempt to write a redacted letter to rectify.
You were a wonderful resource for my son. Thank you
enough beds for all the patients and 3 meals per day not clean enough, bad neighborhood, not enough peer counslers
