ABOUT PHOENIX HOUSE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM AND OUTPATIENT SERVICES – VENICE

Located on famed Ocean Front Walk in Venice, California, Phoenix House provides gender-specific, residential treatment and outpatient-based programs for men struggling with a primary chemical dependency diagnosis. It also offers support for men struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders. One of over 130 facilities operated by Phoenix House, one of the largest addiction treatment organizations in the U.S., the facility does not offer on-site detoxification services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Before beginning treatment, clients participate in an initial behavioral assessment to help clinicians develop an individualized plan of care. If a client requires structure and supervision to sustain recovery, the individual may be referred to the residential program. The length of residential treatment varies, depending on client needs, though most Phoenix House residential programs last between 30 and 180 days.

Phoenix House of Venice’s residential program utilizes a range of evidence-based treatment methods, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), to help clients identify and change destructive thinking patterns that contribute to addictive behavior. During treatment, residents adhere to a highly-structured schedule of individual and group therapy sessions that address a range of topics, such as recovery dynamics, relapse prevention, life skills, trauma, and anger management.

In addition to counseling sessions, Phoenix House’s programming introduces residents to 12-step principles and practices. Clients may attend on- and off-site meetings, study fellowship literature, and perform associated “step-work.” Residents with a history of trauma may also participate in Seeking Safety programming.

Along with traditional programming, clients engage in a range of alternative treatments and recreational activities, including exercise sessions at Muscle Beach, creative writing workshops, yoga sessions, hikes on the beach, and beach volleyball games. To help residents reach self-sufficiency, the facility also provides vocational counseling, job preparation workshops, and assistance with job placement.

Upon completion of the residential program, clinicians may encourage residential alumni to transition into the facility’s outpatient program. The facility offers both intensive (nine hours or more of weekly programming) and traditional (less than nine hours) outpatient programs. Case managers also offer comprehensive discharge planning, which may include referrals to sober housing, community-based resources, and support networks.
