ABOUT TRANSITIONAL LIVING CENTER (TLC)
A division of the Connecticut-based Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA), Transitional Living Center (TLC) provides sober living support for adults who have recently received psychiatric treatment. Based in New Britain, Conn., the residential facility offers an alternative for individuals who, without guidance and supervision, would eventually require hospitalization.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, TLC’s programming is focused on helping residents develop the skills and self-confidence needed to live a productive, independent life. In addition to helping clients maintain regular appointments, staff work with residents in areas including personal care, money management, socialization, housekeeping, education, and employment. As clients gain and strengthen life skills, they are granted more responsibility and independence. Eventually, clients are provided with a personalized discharge plan.

The 17-bed facility is located in a residential area of a suburban neighborhood. Clients are required to participate in the upkeep of the facility, as it teaches responsibility and fosters a sense of community with other residents. The one loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com gave the center’s accommodations and amenities a rating of four out of five stars, highlighting the “well-maintained and clean” facility.

The single loved one surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date was pleased with their experience with TLC, giving four- or five-star ratings in all evaluated categories, including the program’s treatment effectiveness, the staff’s level of training and experience, and the center’s family participation. In addition to highlighting the facility’s cleanliness, the anonymous reviewer also praised the organization’s services and financial assistance program. “I thought the services offered were excellent. The assistance they give to help people pay for treatment is wonderful,” they wrote.
