ABOUT OPERATION PAR, INC. – PORT RICHEY

Operation PAR is a nonprofit behavioral and mental health services organization in seven Florida counties that offers comprehensive assistance for individuals and families. The Port Richey, Pasco County facility offers outpatient medication assisted patient services (MAPS) to adults living with chemical dependency and its consequences. Counseling as well as detoxification are provided on-site. An intervention and prevention center for adolescents also is located in Port Richey.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

After an in-depth assessment of life circumstances and a physical examination, each client receives a recommendation from clinicians for an individualized treatment plan. To assist with withdrawal from prescription painkillers, heroin, and other opioids, the facility offers methadone and buprenorphine detox and maintenance services.

Counselors supplement clients’ medication treatment with evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. These sessions help clients to process and modify underlying thinking patterns that may contribute to addictive behavior.

Operation PAR emphasizes a commitment to not only helping individuals struggling with addiction but also their families. Specialized treatment for women who are pregnant also is available.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Operation PAR facilities are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Treatment staff includes certified addiction counselors.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

An alum polled by Best-rehabs.com about Operation Par in Port Richey offered generally favorable feedback about their experience. Although they characterized the facility’s management as hypocritical, they rated overall treatment effectiveness as four out of five stars and the likelihood of recommending the program to others as a perfect five stars. They likewise awarded four and five stars to numerous other metrics, including staff experience and training, family participation, holistic offerings, cleanliness, and affordability. However, they only gave two out of five stars to counseling options, connectivity, and exercise & leisure. This former client wrote: “They help people” and “It was overall a good experience.”

Reviews of the Port Richey facility published on multiple websites were split between those reporting success with the program and others complaining of staffing and organizational problems. One weakness commonly mentioned was the facility’s overemphasis on payment.

On Google, 10 review (alumni, others) averaged 3.1 out of five stars. Ratings were starkly divided between high and low – 60 percent were four and five stars, and 40 percent were only one star. [1] A five-star reviewer wrote: “Helped save my life” while another commented: “This place is bs it dosnt help it makes u more addicted just 2 methadone which is HARDER 2 get off of.”

Seven CiteHealth reviews (alumni, others) averaged a 3.14 stars out of five. [2] Here too, ratings skewed high and low. One reviewer wanted people to know: “This is a good program IF YOU FOLLOW IT. But too many people don’t follow the rules, keeping themselves deeply involved in the drug scene.” Another wrote: “Operation PAR has saved my life and so many lives of other addicts.” Others complained about wait time, unfair treatment, and issues with counselors.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

One Google reviewer reported her stepson died from an “accidental methadone overdose,” blaming the Port Richey clinic for this tragedy. She also referenced concerns with unsavory activity and security on the facility’s surrounding environment.

CONCLUSION

Several Tampa Bay Times articles published between 2011 and 2014 support reviewers’ impressions of the Port Richey facility’s atmosphere. A November 2012 story reports neighborhood complaints about a chaotic, overly busy setting. In 2013, a new MAPS facility opened in Spring Hill, which began serving many clients who previously traveled to Port Richey, according to an October Times report.

The Operation Par website indicates its MAPS clinics accept Medicaid and the programs are “totally computerized, thus greatly limiting wait time.”
