ABOUT TURNING POINT OF TAMPA, INC.
Located in Tampa, Fla., Turning Point of Tampa, Inc. has offered comprehensive treatment programs for adults struggling with chemical dependency, co-occurring mental health disorders, and eating disorders for more than three decades. Turning Point provides residential, partial hospitalization, and outpatient treatment services. The program does not offer on-site detoxification services, and new clients must be medically cleared before receiving treatment.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the center’s website, to begin, clients undergo an initial assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. The residential program lasts 30 days, and Turning Point encourages residents to participate in extending care, during which clients are expected to work, volunteer, or attend school while continuing treatment.
The program’s chemical dependency and co-occurring treatment is founded in 12-step principles and participation. Along with a 12-step immersion, residential clients participate in a structured schedule of group counseling, weekly individual therapy sessions, and educational lectures.
The eating disorder program treats individuals struggling with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorders. Clients attend regular support groups that address issues of body image and nutrition. They also meet with a nutritionist once a week to develop and monitor meal planning.
Turning Point of Tampa, Inc. considers family involvement an important component of treatment. The facility holds a three-day, intensive family program, which includes multi-family educational groups and family counseling. To provide ongoing support, the facility has a free aftercare program for alumni. Led by a counselor, alumni aftercare groups continue to meet, and clients share their progress in recovery.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The center’s website indicates Turning Point of Tamps, Inc. is accredited by the Joint Commission, and the treatment team includes a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, master’s level therapists, licensed mental health counselors, social workers, and registered dieticians.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
According to Turning Point of Tampa’s website, the treatment center is known as “The Village.” Turning Point of Tampa Inc. houses residents in apartment-like duplexes that surround the main treatment building. Individuals enjoy private or semi-private rooms, a private phone and answering machine, cable television, outside sitting areas, and laundry facilities. Housing is supervised 24/7.
Photos on the center’s website shows a beach volleyball court, foosball tables, work out facilities, ping-pong tables, and basketball courts.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the 11 alumni that were surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing, eight provided positive feedback, only one alum left neutral feedback, and two provided negative reviews.
Former clients felt the program was effective, and they provided excellent ratings for counseling and staff support. Four alumni rated every metric. The gave the staff’s experience and level of training an average of 4.75 out of five stars, and they rated the center’s visitors policy 4.66 stars.
“The staff made me feel very welcome and were good to me,” one anonymous alum wrote. Similarly, alum J.A.D. noted “the whole experienced enriched my life… The counselors were always alert to our individual needs & addressed them accordingly.”
However, there were a few complaints in Best-rehabs.com surveys. One alum complained about the food, and another thought treatment was too expensive. “They get the job done but the price is a downfall,” they wrote.
Overall, the center received 4.25 stars when asked if the alumni would recommend the center.
The two alumni who left negative feedback gave one and two stars for treatment effectiveness. “Turning Point treated me awfully. It was a mistake attending Turning Point of Tampa. I would be very uncomfortable recommending Turning Point of Tampa to anyone,” an alum wrote.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The 11 loved ones who were surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing also gave mostly positive reviews. They provided an average of 4.26 out of five stars when asked if they would recommend the treatment center, and the loved ones gave 4.2 stars for the center’s family participation.
“Turning Point helped my son identify psychological triggers that cause addictive behavior in himself; helped him with internal motivation to stay clean; gave him confidence in himself; promoted NA and/or AA meetings… Highly recommend,” a parent wrote.
Another anonymous loved one simply commented: “My family member returned healthy, relaxed and confident.”
Multiple loved ones also wrote about the staff’s experience and expertise. “The facility is well staffed with very professional minded peolpe that care very much about there job and the people that they are there to help,” a loved one wrote.
Loved ones also rated the center well on family participation, cleanliness, and affordability.

The center’s website notes Turning Point of Tampa, Inc. is in-network with most major insurance providers and offers financing through third-party lenders. The facility does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
