ABOUT GENESEE HEALTH SYSTEM- SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER SERVICES
Genesee Health System (GHS) – Substance Use Disorder Services, located in Flint, MI, offers medical detoxification, residential, and various outpatient treatment to adolescents and adult men and women struggling with substance use and mental health disorders. The facility believes that all levels of substance use can be treated and purposefully chose the title of Substance Use Disorder Services to help reduce the stigma surrounding use of substances.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The facility’s program follows evidence-based strategies for treatment of substance use. In order to be admitted, clients should first contact the GHS Access Center to complete a screening. If the potential client is eligible for treatment, they will then be referred to the appropriate provider for treatment. The facility is able to treat clients who have co-occurring mental health disorders in addition to substance use disorder.
The facility offers many different treatment options, both inpatient and outpatient. Medically supervised detoxification is available as an inpatient stay and lasts three to five days. Residential treatment is for those in need of more intense services; individual and group counseling are included as part of an organized daily schedule in this program.
Outpatient services include counseling sessions in a clinical setting and are available to individuals, groups, and families for up to eight hours per week. Day Treatment and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) services are available for those in need of a higher level outpatient treatment option and include three to four hours of treatment per day for three to five days per week.
Medication assisted therapy is offered under the care of a physician as a supplement to the other addiction treatment options. Methadone is dispensed for heroin and other opiate users to assist in the recovery process.
Recovery housing provides a structured, substance-free housing option with peer-led group therapy. The facility also offers services that go into the jails to provide individual and group counseling for substance use.
Finally, the facility has specialized services available for adolescents, pregnant women, and women with families. Residential and outpatient options are available for adolescents while women and family services are provided by trained staff with an emphasis on primary medical care along with substance use treatment.
