Based in Union, New Jersey, a suburb of Newark, Serenity at Summit Behavioral Health provides medical detoxification services and residential treatment programs for adults struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health difficulties. TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Within the first 24 hours of admission, clients participate an initial a clinical and medical evaluations, which helps clinicians to form an individualized treatment plan If medically necessary, clients participate in a medical and holistic detoxification regimen to help clients comfortably and safely detoxify from their chemical dependency. According to the facility’s website, the process typically lasts between five and seven days. Once complete, the client may transition into Serenity’s 30-day residential program.
To treat its clientele, Serenity at Summit Behavioral Health utilizes a range of evidence-based treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and holistic approaches. During the residential program, clients participate in a structured schedule of individual therapy sessions, as well as specialized group counseling sessions twice daily. Clinicians may also encourage loved ones to participate in family counseling sessions.
Group counseling sessions address are range of relevant topics, including stress management, emotional regulation, mindfulness training, relationship building, and relapse prevention. In addition, Serenity incorporates 12-step participation into programming. Clients attend on-site 12-step meetings, study fellowship literature, and participate in workshops that guide clients through the 12-step process.
To address any co-occurring mental health difficulties, Serenity at Summit Behavioral Health may offer issue-relevant, trauma-informed counseling, educational sessions and ongoing medications management. The facility also offers eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and bio-feedback sessions for individuals struggling with trauma-related concerns.
Along with its evidence-based treatments, Serenity at Summit Behavioral Health incorporates a number of holistic treatment approaches into programming. Clients may participate in Reiki, yoga, mindful meditation, acupuncture/acupressure, creative arts therapies, journaling, hypnotherapy, and therapeutic massages. The facility also conducts health and nutritional assessments.
Once a client completes residential treatment, clinicians may encourage them to transition into Summit Behavioral Health’s 12-week intensive outpatient program (IOP). Available to both adults and adolescents, outpatient programs consist of group, individual, and family counseling sessions and educational classes. Outpatient clients are also also strongly encouraged to attend community-based 12-step meetings.

Serenity at Summit Behavioral Health employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of multidisciplinary team of physicians experienced in addiction medicine, nurses, masters-level counselors, licensed social workers, and a support staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The Serenity residential programs are provided through two of Summit Behavioral Health’s facilities: a detoxification clinic in Union, N.J. and a recently-added detox/residential facility in Haverhill, Mass. The residential facility offers both spacious double-occupancy bedrooms and private bedrooms, well-furnished TV lounges, and a dining hall. During the detoxification process, clients have 24-hour access to medical and nursing care.

Although Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date, secondary sources revealed very polarized alumni opinions. On Google reviews, seven individuals gave the Union facility an average rating of three out of five stars. [1] While some reviewers felt the facility was highly effective, others were critical of the cleanliness of the facility and the attitude of staff members. “My experience at serenity was a good beginning into recovery,” Nick, a representative reviewer, wrote. However, other reviewers described the facility as “dirty” and the staff as “careless and rude.”
On Google reviews, three individuals also offered mixed reviews for the Haverhill facility. [2] However, representative reviewer Lindsay awarded the facility a perfect five-star rating, praising the facility’s 12-step involvement and counseling session. “Serenity at summit was absolutely amazing!” Lindsay wrote.
