CMR Recovery Residence – Substance Abuse and Alcohol Recovery Program

ABOUT CMR RECOVERY RESIDENCE — SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND ALCOHOL RECOVERY PROGRAM

Located in a wooded area on Long Island, 50 miles from Midtown Manhattan, CMR Recovery Residence offers residential treatment for adults struggling with addiction. The program was founded 74 years ago by early members of the original 12-step program, under the guidance of Bill W.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The program is offered in 30-day units, with a minimum stay of 30 days. The length of stay is tailored to suit the individual client’s needs, though CMR advises 90 days.

As its origin story suggests, CMR Recovery Residence offers a program that’s heavily based on the 12-Steps, with dedicated meetings for opiate addiction and alcoholism. As well as 12-step meetings, residents take place in daily individual and group counseling sessions.

Graduates of the program may access on-site aftercare meetings seven days a week.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center is staffed 24/7 by “dedicated men and women in recovery,” according to the facility’s website. Each of the three individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it four out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Private and semi-private rooms are available, all of which have cable TV. Photos published on the facility’s website show simple, traditionally decorated bedrooms. A complete laundry service is provided, and there’s a smoking lounge with a filtration system. Extracurricular activities include supervised shopping trips and outings. Each of three individuals polled to date on CMR’s accommodations and meals gave four or five stars in both categories. In the category of cleanliness, reviewers provided slightly lower ratings of three, three, and four stars.

CMR Recovery Residence provides free transportation to and from major airports and mass transit hubs.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The five reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com to date were unanimously positive, albeit with some caveats. The three reviewers polled on the facility’s offerings in a variety of treatment metrics each gave CMR four out of five stars for the overall effectiveness of its treatment, the strength of its 12-step program, and its treatment for co-occurring disorders. Reviewers repeatedly praised the staff. “The Staff: 10/10 The apotheosis of a wise, friendly unit of experts,” Brian wrote in a representative review. Brian also praised the physical facility, writing: “With acres of land, one can parambulate the landscape, interact with nature, shoot hoops, or sit in the sun and read a book from CMR’s massive library.”

There were also some areas of repeated criticism, however. The three clients polled on CMR’s holistic offerings gave them low ratings of one, two, and three stars, and more than one client was disappointed that the facility doesn’t accept insurance.

At the time of this writing, secondary review sites also yielded almost unanimously positive feedback. On Facebook (where the center manages its own page), CMR Recovery Residence had an average rating of four out of five stars, based on 11 reviews; on Yelp, it had three five-star reviews; and on YellowPages.com, it had two five-star reviews and a two-star review.[1] [2] [3] Several reviewers on these sites said their stay at CMR Recovery Residence had saved their lives: “It truly is an amazing place.
