ABOUT CNY SERVICES – MILESTONES
Conveniently located only minutes off the New York State Thruway in Utica, Central New York (CNY) Services’ Milestones program helps individuals dealing with issues of substance abuse and mental health. It is amongst the 542 (58.8 percent) treatment programs in the state that offer Suboxone Replacement Therapy and Naltrexone medications “as a preventive treatment for both alcohol and opiate dependent individuals who have already detoxed and wish to protect their sobriety.” In addition to services for adults, this center is one of the 238 (25.8 percent) in New York with specifically-tailored programming for adolescents.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Milestones is a dual recovery outpatient program supported by evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). In addition to these therapies, applied across private, group, and family therapy settings, treatment helps clients address their past trauma and grief as well as any future relapse concerns.
Psychiatric evaluations and assessments are available both day and evening. The state-licensed outpatient program makes use of unique evidence-based approaches like The Seven Challenges and Stages of Change.
The program also runs specialized groups for LGBT individuals, young adults, teens, and those with DWI issues. In New York, 8.43 percent of adolescents ages 12 to 17 engaged in illicit drug use in the past month, and 2.76 percent of New York teens exhibited alcohol use disorder in the past year. Free Narcan training is offered to the public.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Per the program’s official brochure, Milestones is led by a medical director certified by the American Society of Addiction (ASAM). Also on staff is an adult and teen psychiatrist and licensed behavioral health professionals. In the state of New York, 98.6 percent of all substance abuse treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff. A three-, a four-, and a five-star rating were all given for the staff’s level of experience and training from three individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing both left mostly positive feedback. One of these two anonymous reviewers noted that he attended the facility due to a court order, and gave five stars for treatment overall. When prompted on facility strengths, this individual wrote, “choice of groups,” awarding a four-star rating for counseling options. A low, two-star rating went to admissions and discharge procedures, and this alum gave just one star for holistic offerings, but still noted that overall, the program was worth the cost.
The other anonymous former client agreed that “counselors” were a facility strength and gave four stars for the level of family participation. Both alumni gave three out of five stars for the center’s effectiveness in treating co-occurring disorders.
At the time of this writing, secondary site reviews were excellent. On CiteHealth, each of the two alumni shared five-star overall ratings, one adding, “I owe my life to this place!” Similarly, the facility has two, five-star ratings on Google, with client M.A. commenting, “Thank you guys so much for your professionlism and realism.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The single loved one surveyed by Best-rehabs.com as of this writing claimed that Milestones “Really helped (their) loved one overcome addiction.” This individual gave the program ratings of four and five stars for 11 of the 15 different metrics evaluated, such as the counseling options, family participation, and the staff’s level of training and experience.
FINANCING
Milestones requires all prospective clients to have their insurance card, Medicaid card, or Medicaid pending letter at the time of intake. Sliding scale fees based on income may be available for individuals without insurance. The two reviewers to submit feedback on the center’s affordability to date gave a two- and a four-star rating.
