Cayuga Addiction Recovery Services (CARS), located in Ithaca, N.Y., offers outpatient treatment to individuals aged 13 and older struggling with chemical dependency. The organization was founded in 1972 and offers residential treatment at its sister facility in Trumansburg, N.Y. Cayuga is regulated by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and the NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs (Justice Center).
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The facility’s treatment program follows the. In addition to the Matrix Model, treatment at CARS also pulls heavily from other methods including the Brain Disease Model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Contingency Management, Motivational Interviewing and Relapse Prevention. To be admitted, clients may submit an application to the facility via fax or email, or can call the facility to schedule an assessment. Clients receive treatment through individual and group counseling, family education groups, early recovery skills groups, relapse prevention groups, couples counseling, drug screen tests, 12-step programs, relapse analysis, and social support groups. Participants may receive medication including Naltrexone, Suboxone, Campral, Wellbutrin and Chantix. Each client works one-on-one with a trained addiction counselor throughout the program.

Alum R.B., who gave one star, expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the experience at Cayuga Addiction Recovery. He wrote, “They are nice until you are a patient . I had alot of problems!” Another alum, D.S., disagreed with that viewpoint. He gave four stars and wrote “I think most of us don’t like it there because we’re not ready to hear what we need to hear, the truth…Some things could use some updating but structure is needed and you won’t change until you get a positive attitude.”
