Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation New York City New York

Hazelden is dedicated to providing hope, healing, and health to individuals impacted by addiction to alcohol and other substances. Our mission is to ensure that all those seeking recovery have access to it, and to eliminate the stigma associated with addiction. We are committed to treating the whole person, not just their illness, with dignity and respect. We also maintain our commitment to the Twelve Step fellowship and embrace innovation in our approach.

ABOUT HAZELDEN BETTY FORD FOUNDATION

Established in 1949 in Minnesota, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation operates 17 treatment facilities across nine states. Our center in New York City, located in the Chelsea neighborhood, offers outpatient-based treatment for adults struggling with chemical dependency, as well as co-occurring mental health disorders. Unfortunately, we do not provide medical detox services on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, our expert clinicians conduct an initial assessment in order to design an individualized treatment plan for each client. Our programming combines the 12-step model of recovery with evidence-based practices such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) typically lasts eight weeks and includes group therapy sessions that focus on the first three steps of the 12-step method. We also offer gender-specific groups as part of our programming. Additionally, our facility provides specialized group counseling sessions and workshops that help clients develop essential recovery skills, manage emotions, identify triggers, enhance impulse control, challenge negative thoughts, and cope with distress. Individual therapy is also offered.

After completing the IOP, clients have the option to participate in our extended outpatient program. This program requires a minimum commitment of 12 weeks, with sessions held once or twice weekly. These sessions offer individualized support, reinforce concepts from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy, assist clients in further developing their sober living skills, and provide a supportive environment among fellow individuals in recovery.

We strongly encourage family members to participate in the treatment process, and we offer a free family workshop series every Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. at our nearby facility in Tribeca. Our Tribeca facility also provides a structured sober living community.
