ABOUT INSIGHT HOUSE CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY SERVICES, INC.
Located in Utica, N.Y., Insight House is a private, nonprofit organization that serves adults and teens faced with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues. Treatment programs include long-term residential, day treatment, and outpatient care. Education and prevention programs are also on offer, though detox services are not.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Walk-in assessments are available Monday and Friday morning. Prospective clients generally require two visits to help clinicians form a customized treatment plan. Individuals requiring detoxification or methadone treatment may be referred to a nearby is necessary, though medication-assisted therapy (MAT) and psychiatric assessments are both provided on-site.
Those in need of a structured, supervised environment for rehabilitation may be referred for residential treatment, typically completed in six to nine months. The program is organized around group therapy sessions to address any underlying thinking patterns contributing to addictive behavior, wellness groups, and life skills training. Along with these core therapeutic and educational programs, Insight House runs G.E.D. classes and provides referrals for vocational training.
The intensive day treatment program meets four hours a day, five days a week in the beginning, with decreasing frequency as clients progress. The program consists of individual and group counseling and offers women-only treatment with sessions that address trauma, parenting, self-esteem, and health issues.
For those in the early stages of recovery and those who’ve completed more intensive treatment, outpatient counseling offers opportunity for ongoing care. A free support group for families meets each Tuesday evening.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team includes medical doctors, registered nurses, master’s level mental health and substance abuse counselors, licensed social workers, and case managers.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The residential facility at Insight House can accommodate up to 44 men and women at a time. Residents have access to a gym and opportunity for other recreational activities.
The seven Best-rehabs.com survey respondents gave Insight House average ratings of 4.28 out of five for its accommodations and meals and 4.71 for its cleanliness.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com as of this writing agreed on several areas of strength, such as the opportunities for family participation, the staff’s experience and training, and program affordability. Both gave a perfect five-star ratings when indicating how strongly they’d recommend treatment and both described the staff as caring, though one found the facility disorganized. “I have never felt so understood in my life,” the other told Best-rehabs.com on a more positive note.
To date, all seven Facebook users gave Insight House a perfect five stars, one of whom called it “an amazing place to go to if you need help with your addiction.”[1]
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The majority of the five Best-rehabs.com survey respondents gave positive feedback about their loved one’s treatment experiences. All but one highlighted the staff’s professionalism, empathy, and experience. “Staff is phenomenal,” one wrote.
Collectively, these reviewers gave Insight House average ratings of at least 4.5 stars out of five for metrics measuring program affordability, policies concerning connectivity outside of the facility, and family participation.
FINANCING
An initial evaluation costs $120 while other services are assessed on a sliding fee scale. Private insurance, HMO plans, Medicaid, and self-payment are also accepted forms of payment. The state-funded facility maintains that persons “will not be denied treatment due to inability to pay.”
