ABOUT SAMARITAN DAYTOP VILLAGE – HIGHBRIDGE RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAM

Samaritan Daytop Village is a nonprofit organization providing addiction treatment and recovery services to men, women, and families, and specialized programs for the elderly, homeless, and veterans. The Highbridge Residential Treatment Program, one of the nonprofit’s more than 40 programs in the Bronx, New York City, offers residential substance abuse treatment for adult men and women.

Detox services are offered at the facility in Richmond Hill, Queens. Samaritan facilities can also treat co-occurring disorders including issues with substance use, mental health issues, medical diagnoses, and homelessness.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients may schedule an appointment for an assessment conducted either via phone or in person. Admission is available on weekdays and weekends.

All Samaritan Daytop Village’s substance abuse programs are holistic and highly structured in nature and employ evidence-based treatment practices and follow a therapeutic community model. Service includes motivational one-on-one counseling, group therapy, and addiction education, as well as housing assistance, family reunification services, vocational training, and employment facilitation.

Outpatient (OP) treatment, transitional living services, and opioid treatment are available at other Samaritan facilities located within the Bronx.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Samaritan employs case managers, and leadership includes licensed care social worker-certified and doctoral-level management. Four alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com rated staff’s level of experience and training a perfect five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Bronx-based facility houses residents in modest dorm-style bedrooms with closets and dressers. Clients are advised to bring three sets of clothes and personal identification. Clients may also bring $20 for incidentals and electronic devices, though their use is permissible only at certain times.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

To date, five former clients shared mostly positive feedback, describing the “very effective” treatment and an experienced staff as facility highlights. Four of the alumni rated Highbridge’s cleanliness, and affordability on average a perfect five stars, its counseling options 4.75 stars, and its holistic treatment offerings four stars. The three alum polled on the staff’s level of training and experience also all gave perfect five-star ratings.

A few alumni praised the various counseling methods and staff in particular, citing no weaknesses with any of their experiences. Alum Ed claimed that “i get back my life and all that i had lost plus more,” noting that his aftercare included a place to stay, a job, and schooling. These three alumni all indicated that the cost of treatment was well worth it and they found success with the program.

A fourth reviewer, however, referred to the residential facility “a joke,” and warned others of “cookie cutter meetings, terrible food, [and] incompetent staff.”

On Indeed, Samaritan Daytop Village as an organization has received an above-average rating of 3.6 out of five stars from 69 employees to date.

In a representative review, a former part-time social worker gave their Bronx-based facility a four-star rating, calling their experience a “great opportunity to advocate for and provide support services to clients in an inpatient therapeutic community who have a combination of legal, substance abuse, employment, and housing issues.”

FINANCING

Treatment costs at Samaritan Village are often covered by public assistance. Those who are ineligible for public assistance are required to pay out-of-pocket, as private insurance only covers medical services such as blood work, medication, and physical exams.
