ABOUT OHIO VALLEY TEEN CHALLENGE
Based in Youngstown, Ohio, the Ohio Valley Teen Challenge is a Christian-based treatment center for men aged 18 and above who are struggling with substance abuse. The program has a duration of 12-14 months and does not offer on-site medically-monitored detoxification. Additionally, the center operates a women’s center, Teen Challenge of the Firelands, in Ohio.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The Ohio Valley Teen Challenge program is grounded in Christian values and incorporates Biblical teachings, daily prayer and worship, and pastoral counseling. Evidence-based therapies and 12-step programming are not utilized at this facility. Prior to admission, clients are required to obtain a TB test and a sports physical.
The first four weeks of treatment serve as an orientation period where students are introduced to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the facility’s rules. Residents also participate in a work experience program where they receive training in areas such as cooking and grounds maintenance. GED education is available during the second half of the treatment. Clients engage in individual and group Bible study and scripture memorization, as well as community service, off-campus recreational activities, and peer mentoring.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The staff at Ohio Valley Teen Challenge consists of pastors, an intake coordinator, and staff mentors. Licensed counselors are not employed.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The campus is smoke-free, and nicotine products are prohibited. Amenities include a recreation room, exercise/weight room, and outdoor basketball court. According to one loved one’s feedback, the accommodations and amenities received a perfect five-star rating.

No feedback from Ohio Valley Teen Challenge alumni has been received by Best-rehabs.com at this time. However, on Google, the facility received an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars based on reviews from five individuals. Similarly, on the center’s Facebook page, which is managed by the facility, 48 reviewers gave it a perfect five-star rating. Jill, in her review, expressed gratitude for the organization’s impact on the community and described it as “truly an amazing place.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
A loved one surveyed by Best-rehabs.com rated the center’s treatment effectiveness and accommodations with a perfect five out of five stars. They also indicated that they would recommend the facility. However, they gave mediocre ratings to the center’s exercise and holistic activities, affordability, cleanliness, and treatment of co-occurring disorders. The reviewer provided two out of five ratings for counseling options and family participation. Nonetheless, they described the center as “awesome and very inspirational.”
FINANCING
Prior to treatment, a non-refundable admission fee of $1,000 must be paid. Tuition is determined based on the family’s income using a sliding scale, and financial assistance is available to eligible individuals. The facility does not accept insurance.
