ABOUT BAY AREA RECOVERY CENTER – WOMEN’S FACILITY
Located in Dickinson, Texas, 30 miles southeast of Houston, Bay Area Recovery Center (BARC) operates five adult substance abuse treatment facilities, including a residential program for women. A separate facility caters to men, and the organization also operates a freestanding detox unit and an outpatient center.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
BARC’s women’s program facilitates drug and alcohol recovery from detoxification to aftercare. To treat its clientele, the facility emphasizes building self-esteem and self-confidence as keys to long-term recovery.
The overall treatment approach combines evidence-based therapies with 12-step immersion. Clients participate in individual and group counseling, education classes about chemical dependency, and cognitive intervention work. The residential program lasts a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 180 days.
In treatment, clients are also introduced to the 12-Step program, which 48% of U.S. treatment facilities utilize as a component of their treatment plans. Clients are introduced to the program’s principles, attend meetings, and begin “step work.” Clients are encouraged to continue with 12-Step after they complete primary treatment.
The program aims to prepare residents for a functional life in society after treatment. It provides personal social adjustment training, employment readiness training, and job placement services. Job training and placement services are offered in up to 39% of U.S. treatment facilities. Clients also have relapse prevention sessions.
BARC offers lifetime aftercare for all alumni, which includes group meetings. The aftercare program emphasizes accountability for sober living. Clients are encouraged to seek additional support sources, including 12-step groups and other group options in addition to the alumni groups.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
In addition to a psychiatrist and registered nurse, BARC’s staff members include licensed professional counselors, social workers, and licensed chemical dependency counselors.
