ABOUT LAUREL RIDGE TREATMENT CENTER

Set on 18 acres in northern San Antonio, Laurel Ridge Treatment Center is a 250-bed psychiatric facility dedicated to providing treatment for children, teens, and adults with addictive, mental, and behavioral health issues. The center is state-licensed and Joint Commission-accredited, offering a range of services and programs including medical detox, age-specific residential, day treatment, and outpatient care options, as well as specialized services for active duty military.

Physician-led medical detoxification is available under the chemical dependency program.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Programs at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center are organized by age and level of treatment intensity. Separate programs are provided for children ages four to 12, teens ages 13 to 17, and adults. These programs include individual and group therapy, family education and involvement, and recreational activities.

Acute care treatment is available for youth requiring immediate stabilization from a crisis and those unable to function independently. Residential treatment incorporates various therapeutic approaches, skill-oriented therapy, and daily academic programming. The center also offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for teens, which helps develop time management and coping skills, stress reduction techniques, and more.

For adults 18 and older with addictive issues, Laurel Ridge’s chemical dependency treatment programs follow a 12-step model. Detoxification may be provided prior to treatment for some clients. Independent adults have access to PHP care weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and an intensive outpatient (IOP) track that runs until noon. Aftercare consists of free weekly chemical dependency support groups and meetings.

Specialized services include bilingual residential services for Spanish speakers, a military-specific treatment program, and art therapy.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center’s staff includes psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, physician assistants, master’s level therapists, and state-certified, special education teachers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The 250-bed campus houses its clients in shared rooms within securely locked units. In addition to having access to a library, computer lab, swimming pool, and gym, clients can participate in the on-site ROPES (Reality Oriented Physical Experiential Services) course.

Laurel Ridge is home to an on-site charter school that provides a K-12 education curriculum for youth in treatment. GED preparation and testing and vocational training are also offered.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Feedback provided by more than 10 alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date was varied. Overall, alumni reported above-average ratings for the facility’s level of cleanliness, its counseling options, and its family inclusion, though less-than-average ratings for the connectivity policies and the holistic offerings. One anonymous reviewer commented: “Not what I expected, very skimpy on services offered.”

While some alumni found the staff “courteous and helpful,” “attentive,” “knowledgeable,” even “wonderful,” others criticized the staff as “completely unprofessional.” An anonymous alum described the facility as “somewhat old and run down” and mentioned outdated treatments. They added that it was an experience they try to forget.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Feedback from family and friends was also mixed. While ratings for cleanliness and staff training and experience were generally above average, some reviewers expressed disappointment in the lack of treatment for specific issues and cited problems with their loved ones’ care.

However, there were also positive comments, with one reviewer stating that the program was directed towards addressing personal issues and needs.

CONCLUSION

Prospective clients should be aware of Laurel Ridge’s past lawsuits, including a sexual assault case in 2016 and a dismissed lawsuit from 2007. Laurel Ridge accepts TRICARE, Medicaid, Medicare, and most insurance plans.

Laurel Ridge Treatment Center Reviews

My son went here and it was the worst decision I made. I thought they would be helping him take a step in the right direction, but it was more of a jail like setting with little to no communication between clinical staff and myself.
weak....inattentive staff...lazy
The nursing staff was completely unprofessional. ...While I waited for the phones to be turned back on so that I could call home, the nurse called me to the counter so that I would lose my turn in line and then stated that she forgot what she needed when I got up there. The signs posted read that the first five minutes of outside time were nonsmoking time, but every time they allowed us to go outside, they would let the smokers out at the same time. When I asked when "fresh air"" time was
