ABOUT ALPHA HOME

Alpha Home, located in San Antonio, Tex., has a 50-year history of providing substance abuse and mental health care, including treatment for co-occurring disorders. Services include residential treatment for women, outpatient programming for men and women, transitional housing for women, and outreach and intervention for pregnant and parenting women. Detox services are not available on-site. All clients must be Texas residents and at least 18 years old.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

An initial assessment determines the best program fit and a personalized plan. Treatment in all programs is based on the 12-Steps. Residential clients are required to work with a sponsor and participate in a community 12-step program. Outpatient program clients are encouraged to do so too.

Residential clients stay an average length of 70 days. During this time, they engage in a range of treatment activities, including individual and group counseling, process and education groups, sober living skills development, and health and wellness classes. An on-site medical clinic staffed by the University of Texas Health Science Center addresses residents’ medical needs. The program assists clients in meeting their legal and educational needs/goals, including liaising with Child Protective Services and criminal justice entities, and offering G.E.D. classes and job training.

Outpatient programs typically last from four to six months and are gender-specific. Treatment largely uses the same formats as the residential program. Alpha Home offers services that develop skills to deal with trauma, domestic violence, and anger management.

Family First focuses on pregnant and parenting women struggling with addiction. A range of educational classes and related services support not only clients, but also babies, children and parenting men.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Alpha Home’s residential, outpatient, and intervention programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Although the organization does not disclose details about its treatment staff, its website references multidisciplinary professionals, including medical and clinical practitioners.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Recovery Support Home accommodates 15 women who are transitioning from residential treatment. During their average four-month stay, they receive three meals daily, are expected to secure employment, and attend outpatient treatment.
