ABOUT BAY AREA RECOVERY CENTER – MEN’S FACILITY

Based in Dickinson, Texas, Bay Area Recovery Center (BARC) operates a residential treatment center for adult men needing treatment for substance abuse. The residential center is one of multiple BARC facilities located throughout the state. Detox, outpatient care, and programs for women are offered at separate facilities in Dickinson, Houston, and Pasadena. Aftercare services are also available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Bay Area Recovery Center begins with comprehensive assessment to determine the client’s needs. Clients 17+ can enroll in the residential program, and typically remain in treatment for between 30 and 180 days. During this time, participants receive 24-hour support and monitoring.

Treatment consists of 12-steps-based methods. Counseling sessions comprise the biggest segment of treatment. Individual and group sessions are provided. Clients also participate in sober living educational courses and recreational activities. Social development and relapse prevention skills are taught to help clients maintain a sober living lifestyle.

Bay Area Recovery Center offers a specialized intervention program to help clients begin their recovery process. Interventions can be scheduled and facilitated by BARC specialists. Clients that participate in a successful intervention can begin the enrollment process for other programs.

Family support is encouraged throughout the program. Family counseling and visitation is encouraged. However, visitations are limited at the beginning of treatment to allow clients to acclimate to the program.

Aftercare services are provided free of charge to clients that successfully complete the treatment programs. An alumni support group is available as well as sobriety management services.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to Bay Area Recovery Center’s website, BARC’s clinical team is led by an addictionologist and psychiatrist. The staff includes registered nurses, social workers, licensed chemical dependency counselors, and a licensed professional counselor.

Family visits are encouraged on the weekends. The three alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com provided either four- or five-star ratings for BARC’s accommodations and amenities.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The four alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com provided positive reviews of this facility, noting the quality of the staff’s training and experience and the center’s cleanliness.

Two of the alumni noted the program’s affordability, while another gave the facility four out of five stars for affordability. “Affordable, the staff was great, the facility was safe and clean and family orientated,” alum Bryan wrote.

An anonymous reviewer appreciated the small group size, indicating that it was easy to get individualized attention; however, this same reviewer felt that the program needed more recreational activity options and gave the facility two out of five stars for its exercise and leisure opportunities. “Nothing good to kill time between meetings. It was a nice small facility but lacked things to do there,” he wrote.

Additionally, alumni gave four out of five stars or higher for accommodations and amenities, and cleanliness.

On CiteHealth, BARC received an average rating of three out of five stars, based on feedback from five user reviews to date. (Some reviews may have been intended for facilities other than the men’s residential center.) While one anonymous reviewer indicated that they had “never experienced better care and treatment,” another alum described the center as “mainly a babysitting facility” that lacked “real care.”
