ABOUT CHARLIE’S PLACE RECOVERY CENTER

Set in the coastal city of Corpus Christi, Texas, Charlie’s Place Recovery Center has been providing substance abuse treatment to adults since 1965. The program offers residential treatment, medically monitored detox, outpatient services, and aftercare services for graduates.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment at Charlie’s Place Recovery Center begins with an assessment by admissions counselors. Clients that are referred by other physicians are enrolled in the detox program. The detox program at Charlie’s Place lasts 5 to 14 days. Clients must be referred by a physician, and once they begin, medication is administered regularly to alleviate withdrawal symptoms. Clients can transfer into the residential program once detox is completed.

The residential program is based on the 12-steps principles and uses evidence-based modalities to facilitate treatment. Clients participate in a structured schedule of individual and group counseling supported by educational coursework. Clients are assigned to a counselor that helps them determine the appropriate methods of treatment. Clients receive at least 30 hours of counseling, education, and life skills training per week. Family counseling is also available and encouraged to rebuild each client’s support network.

The outpatient program serves as a transitional process for clients to work their way out of a treatment facility. Treatment in the outpatient program focuses on group counseling sessions multiple times per week. Clients reinforce their sober living habits while building connections in the community with group members. Participation in community group sessions is also encouraged.

Aftercare planning and transitional services are available for clients that complete the other programs. Clients continue to participate in counseling services as need while finding employment and a residence outside of the program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Charlie’s Place Recovery Center’s website states the treatment team includes licensed therapists and chemical dependency counselors. Staff members have years of experience working with rehab clients and maintain the appropriate credentials while working at the facility. Clients will also encounter administrative staff members that will help with admissions and other administrative tasks.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Charlies Place Recovery Center is set in a fully renovated former hotel, and offers living quarters, staff offices, and therapy rooms. There is also a cafeteria, a recreational center, and a large outdoor courtyard. Cigarette smoking is allowed in designated areas.

If this place was located near by a hospital, my loved would not travel too far to get medication. Well it does work for some people and it doesn't work for others. However, it did work for loved one.

  • I have to write a review here because Charlie's literally transformed and saved my life this year (2016). Coming in I should have died from excessive drinking several times and wasn't going to be helped by just going to a support group like A.A. Charlie's detox program got my body right, their residential program got my mind right and their supportive program gave me the opportunity to transition out of the relative safety of full-time living at Charlie's and back into society all the while giving me a safe haven to return to each night. I can't say enough nice things about the staff, the techs and the counselors. Many of them work for around $8/hr and can barely pay their bills but there they are helping alcoholics and addicts in need. I've heard a lot of flack directed towards the facility in general and I just don't get it. You live in a renovated hotel for God's sake, what more could you want??? Plus a lot of people that complained while I was there were there for free; either covered by insurance, state funded or funded by V.A. programs. I made a couple of friends for life while there and was so impressed at my transformation I relocated to Corpus after my successful discharge. Gotta mention my counselor because she was phenomenal, miss you. I will be forever grateful for the part you played in my recovery. If you struggle with alcoholism or addiction I urge you to check out Charlie's and do what you need to do to get in there. This was my second time in rehab, the first coming somewhere else years ago and I truly believe it was my last.
