ABOUT THE RIGHT STEP HILL COUNTRY IN WIMBERLEY, TX

The Right Step Hill Country, located in Wimberley, Texas, offers residential and detoxification treatment to adults struggling with substance abuse and dual diagnosis. The facility is situated on thirty acres of Texas hill country, conveniently located halfway between San Antonio and Austin. The Right Step also operates fifteen other locations throughout Texas.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Our residential treatment program lasts for 30 days and varies in length depending on the client’s needs. We incorporate the 12-Steps as a general philosophy while incorporating various other treatment modalities, including a shame-resilience curriculum called The Daring Way™ and Positive Recovery®, a program developed by our own chief medical officer. In Positive Recovery, the focus is not merely on abstinence but on discovering meaning and purpose in life post-recovery. We also utilize trauma-based therapies such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

According to our website, the building blocks of our treatment program include group therapy, educational groups, family therapy (including a family therapy day and family aftercare), and regular individual therapy. We also offer creative therapies, meditation, and a fitness program.

The Right Step operates a range of outpatient and aftercare options in urban hubs throughout Texas. All residents who complete the residential program at any location are eligible for a free, two-year aftercare program consisting of weekly support groups. Some locations also offer a 12-month continuing care service called Javelin™ Continuing Care.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, eight alumni have been polled by Best-rehabs.com. Six of the eight reviewers said they would recommend The Right Step Hill Country to a friend or loved one considering treatment. Six anonymous clients said the facility was affordable or worth the cost of treatment, and seven said that the facility staff are experienced and well-trained.

When asked about strengths of the facility, alumni mentioned that they felt staff truly cared for their well-being and that the secluded location and small group size helped them maintain a focus on recovery. When asked about weaknesses, reviewers complained about the short program length of 30 days and long drives to 12-step meetings in the evenings. One alum mentioned that there were a lot of clients sent to the facility from the department of corrections. Another alum added to their review, stating: “I went in only thinking I was going to stay a few days for detox, but the caring staff convinced me to stay one day at a time. I felt safe and comfortable there immediately.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, one family member of a client has been polled by Best-rehabs.com. The mother of an alum said she was unsure whether she would recommend the facility to others. The reviewer mentioned that she was involved in helping her daughter pay for treatment, visited her daughter during treatment, and stayed in regular contact throughout the program. She stated that the facility appeared to match up with how it was described on the website or other marketing materials.

The reviewer also added that she did not know whether her daughter benefitted from the care she received at The Right Step Hill Country. She further commented: “I think most young adults in their twenties need more than 28 days in rehab to be effective. It helped her realize there was a problem and talk about it, but it didn’t help her stay away from temptations.”

The Right Step Hill Country Reviews

I did not benefit. Staff was fickle, counselor sent me to the doctor often and he just prescribed pills. Saw my counselor maybe four times in 3 1/2 weeks for about 10 minutes at a time. She chastised me at first for not participating. No one told me there was a daily schedule. Food was o.k. first week then began to taste awful. Made me gag. They wanted me to stay another 28 days, said I had good insurance. Counselor got my husband to leave on the day he drove there to pick me up. They almost didn't give me my meds upon leavings (had others from my neurologists and gastroenterologist). People there were getting off of meth, heroin, etc. Had lost their kids to CPS and some had been homeless. They laughed that I was there for drinking wine. Nothing in common because they were also young, 20s-30s. Not many had held a job for 30+ years as I had. Cabins were rustic, charming at first but really, 4 people to a tiny room with one bathroom. Awful place, fickle and sometimes downright mean staff
I could write 5 pages about my time there but decided to keep it simple. The food was lacking, how someone gave it 5 stars is we beyond me. They have a cafeteria but it is only open at mealtimes and at night. You have to supply your own coffee. You must keep up with your meds as they won't notify you when it's time. On the other hand, they can't wait to run to the local pharmacy to fill the prescriptions you brought with you. I was there needing pain management and a doctor never addressed the problem leaving me in pain and not in a good mood the entire time I was there. The staff was as 2 faced as could be if they said they were going to do something for you well don't hold your breath. If you part of the flock then this might be a good place for you but if you dare stand up then keep looking
It is not strictly 12 step based but suggested alongside their Positive Recovery program. Any assigned homework or treatment plan work is not enforced. encourages a structured life. Weakness were staff, amenities are broken.
From Bourbon Street New Orleans to Serenity, The Right Step in Wimberley was the best choice I've ever made in my struggle with a daily meth addiction! I was admitted 1 week after Mardi Gras 2015, now it's Dec 2017 and I'm chairing Narcotics Anonymous meetings thanks to the foundation of my recovery at The Right Step. If you're struggling with an addiction please know you're worthy of a life without active addiction. My blessing to you...may your tomorrows always be better than your yesterdays.
Great staff. Informative groups
