  • Having just left Serenity after 34 days, wanted to make a few observations on the other comments posted. If you are using insurance or are paying for your treatment, the women's housing is a block away. The staff watches you all the way when you are walking. This house, " the Lodge" has a few more amenities and space than the campus dormitory. The majority of the clients here are state funded and stay in the main dorm. Also, this program is based almost exclusively on the 12 step methodology and is DEFINITELY faith based. This was my fifth attempt at sobriety and I would recommend this facility to anyone! I am not a Christian; however, I truly learned more here than I have in the last 35 years of my life. Don't discount Serenity because of its faith based approach. They have plenty to offer to all who have the desire for a better life.
I can say that the rehab my loved one received from the treatment center helped in many ways, overall was successful.

Attitudes and qualifications of the staff. This facility is one that a friend of mine was in. Thankfully, I have been spared addiction issues; unfortunately, he hasn't. After having been in this facility, he has stayed sober longer than having attended other facilities.

  • Welcoming to my friend. Did not encourage her to stay when she wanted to check herself out. My friend who was admitted had only positive things to say about her short time there, but left very quickly.

  • Excellent staff and counselors. Positive comfortable environment. Medically assisted detox. Real recovery possible. However, there is a lack of funding. If you love in Texas and need treatment but are scared to go; just apply, it's a great place and they will genuinely take care of you and help you grow. I found myself here.

  • Serenity House really seems to care about their clients. They focus on the disease aspect of addiction, teaching those who are striving for life-long recovery how to deal with the physical and mental cravings as well as how to maintain a healthy spiritual, mental, and physical outlook. If you're looking for a fancy, frilly place, Serenity House if probably not for you. However, if you are looking for tools to provide you or a loved one the education and skills needed to cope in a stressful world without the drugs that once helped you through it, Serenity House is a great place to start. The counselors there were top-notch. They had a great deal of experience with the disease aspect of addiction. The facility is dated, but it is quaint and serves its purpose well. I wish there had been more emphasis on the holistic aspect of recovery. Using yoga, herbs, relaxation techniques, etc... is a very important aspect of after care. There was no emphasis on this except meditation to a very slight extent. I wish they would update the facilities, the women had to walk to their house from the main house, a block. This was due to growth of Serenity House, so I suppose its a good thing in a way.

  • I learned that to keep coming back, it means to meetings, not rehab. It all comes down to the person and willingness.
