TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To determine an appropriate level of care and individualized treatment plan, clients undergo an initial substance abuse and psychiatric assessment. According to the facility’s website, residential care is designed to treat individuals struggling with severe substance abuse concerns and/or criminal behavior due to chemical dependency. To treat its residential clients, Southwest Counseling Services implement evidence-based treatment methods in a therapeutic community model of recovery.
The long-term residential treatment program lasts between six and 12 months, while the short-term program typically lasts between three and six months. During this time, clients adhere to a structured schedule of programming, which may include counseling sessions and educational classes. These classes may address the consequences of chemical dependency, relapse prevention techniques, coping skills, pro-social thinking, and developing peer-support networks. Residents may also participate in regular therapeutic recreational activities.
According to the facility’s website, Southwest Counseling Services is one of the only Wyoming facilities that offers a residential program designated for pregnant women and mothers, allowing children to reside with the mother during treatment. Along with counseling and educational classes, residents may also participate in parenting classes.
Once a resident completes residential treatment, the individual may be referred to Southwest Counseling Services’ intensive outpatient programs. IOP consists of at least nine hours of weekly programming for four to six months. As gender-specific programs, the outpatient-based sessions may address issues common among men and women struggling with chemical dependency, as well as relapse prevention strategies.
The facility also offers an IOP for adolescents (ages 12 to 17), which includes process groups, monthly individual counseling, and family counseling. In addition to its traditional programs, Southwest Counseling Services also offers a program for DUI offenders, which is an eight-hour educational intervention. The DUI program may satisfy court requirements for first-time offenders.
Once an individual completes a treatment program, the facility provides an aftercare program to offer ongoing support. The continuing care program consists of one three-hour session per week. If an individual requires additional support upon discharge, they may have the option to transition into one of Southwest Counseling Services’ transitional living homes. Offering a supportive, recovery-oriented environment, the home help clients to transition back into the community successfully during early recovery.
