Located in the beautiful city of San Clemente, California, Chapters Capistrano is a premier alcohol and drug rehab facility that offers substance abuse treatment at an affordable price. Unlike many luxury treatment centers in Orange County, Chapters Capistrano’s upscale care does not carry an exorbitant price tag. The facility offers affordable individualized treatment, flexible treatment plans, first-class amenities, and a superb staff of doctors, clinicians, and counselors. Clients are given all of the tools they need to reclaim their lives, break free of addiction, and embark on a life-long journey of recovery.
ABOUT CHAPTERS
Headquartered in the coastal town of San Clemente, Calif., Chapters provides residential treatment for adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. The luxury facility provides both 12-step and non-12-step recovery tracks, and medically supervised detox is available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to Chapters’ website, all clients undergo a comprehensive assessment at the time of admission. This process includes a health and addiction evaluation, biopsychosocial testing, a dietary assessment, and, when needed, a psychiatric exam. The findings of these assessments inform each client’s individualized treatment plan. Duration of stay is flexible, but the average length of treatment is 30 days.
Residents who require medical attention for withdrawal symptoms begin their stay in the facility’s on-site detox facility, which offers seven- and 14-day programs. Once stabilized, clients move on to the center’s residential program, which is flexible and can be customized according to the individual’s needs.
During their stay, residents participate in a mix of individual therapy, group counseling, and relapse prevention education. Staff utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but also draw upon the principles of SMART Recovery and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Alternative treatment offerings include yoga, acupuncture, and massage. Additionally, Chapters offers individualized family therapy sessions and weekly family groups.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Chapters’ treatment team includes a psychiatrist and detox specialist, master’s-level therapists, certified addiction counselors, a nutritionist, an acupuncturist, and a yoga instructor.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Chapters maintains two separate residential facilities, the pool house and the ocean house. Both homes accommodate up to six clients, but the slightly larger ocean house is equipped with all private bedrooms, while only four of the pool house’s bedrooms are single occupancy. Pool house residents are welcome to enjoy the on-site swimming pool, while clients at the ocean house are just steps from the beach.
Both homes are comfortably furnished and offer plenty of natural sunlight. An on-site chef prepares three meals each day, and clients have daily access to a nearby athletic club. Clients regularly attend off-site weekend outings, which include whale watching, fishing, local shopping trips, and movie nights. Residents are permitted to use their cell phones and laptops while in treatment.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The two alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing shared differing perspectives on their treatment experiences. Jorge gave the center’s treatment effectiveness and its amenities ratings of five out of five stars. He described the facility as “gorgeous” and the staff as “top notch.” But Jason found Chapters’ treatment environment to be restrictive, despite the “really nice” facility. He gave the center’s treatment effectiveness just one star, writing, “The staff isn’t trained at all and I felt like I wasn’t allowed to leave when I get there to even call my family. I asked for my cell phone or to even use a house phone and they said after the first month I could speak to my family but until then only my case manager could.”
On Google, 15 reviewers provided an average rating of 4.1 out of five stars.[1] While a few users complained about the center’s pricing and billing practices, most Google users praised the caring and empathetic staff. “The staff ended up being the key distinction between Chapters and other facilities I have been to…They cared about us first, putting our needs above their own, and ensuring we felt cared for, loved and supported throughout our stay,” Dan wrote in a representative review. Others highlighted the center’s flexible approach to treatment and its comfortable detox facility. “I was looking for a non 12 step facility that wouldn’t brand me as an alcohol or drug addict. I wanted a comfortable detox and a solution to the chronic pain I had…I was happy to find that Chapters was able to deliver those things,” Dana wrote in her five-star review..
On Yelp, six reviewers provided an average rating of 2.5 out of five stars.[2] Two reviewers praised the center’s “comfortable” accommodations and its “caring, loving staff.” However, four individuals gave the center one- out of five-star ratings, citing what they perceived as unfair billing practices and, in one case, “patient dumping.” “On day 4 of my detox they literally threw me out… the only guy who was on duty to,d me I had to leave immediately and threw my bags in his truck… He dropped me at my house, with no one home, only 4 days into my detox, and left me there alone,” C.D.M. wrote in her one-star review.
WHAT STAFF SAY
On Indeed, each of the three individuals who submitted reviews provided five- out of five-star ratings.[3] One client advisor described the facility as a “great company to work for,” and a case manager wrote that Chapters was “one of the first (companies) that seems to focus on the staff and client care simultaneously and as a result moral are high and the clients getting the care they so desperately need.”
