ABOUT PROTOTYPES WOMEN’S CENTER

A recently required program of HealthRIGHT 360, Prototypes works with men, women, and children facing drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness, trauma, and domestic violence.

One of the organization’s 10 locations throughout Southern California dedicated to treating these issues, Prototypes Women’s Center in Pomona offers residential treatment for women and their children, as well as specialized programs for postpartum women and those involved in the criminal justice system. To help alleviate any symptoms of withdrawal, Prototypes provides acute detoxification services and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). The facility is

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

All Prototypes treatment programs have two goals: to help each client towards a successful recovery through a combination of counseling, medication, and education, and to help them prepare for independent living through training in life skills and employment readiness.

The home-like Women’s Center serves women seeking 24-hour support and intensive, full days of programming. While some complete treatment in a few weeks, others may stay in residence for several months to address more complicated needs. Regardless, all women work alongside staff in developing an effective individualized plan of private counseling, group therapy, on-site educational courses that cover parenting and vocational skills, and recreation.

Depending on their interests, women may take to training in the culinary arts, child care, or computer and receptionist skills. GED and college level classes are also provided for those interested in furthering their formal education.

The Women’s Center accommodates the young children of women through Head Start, a public program designed to provide early childhood education and development and family support services. The organization also runs domestic violence resource centers and other community-based programs “aimed at preventing child abuse and maltreatment as well as infant mortality.”

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The organization’s leadership team include a master’s level social worker who’s also a certified addiction treatment counselor (CATC) and a former clinical case manager with an addiction specialist certification (CAS).

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the organization regarding the living arrangements and related offerings of its Women’s Center; however, the three individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave four- and perfect five-star ratings for the facility’s overall cleanliness and upkeep. According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, the facility is only one of four percent of California facilities to house clients’ children.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Review coverage from two program alumni to date was excellent. Attributing much of their success in recovery to the life skills, alum B.A.D. wrote: “My whole treatment process was developed to address my needs.”

The other alum complained about the centers proximity to a main street, which (she claimed) enabled people to sneak drugs in, but otherwise left high marks for over a dozen metrics including four-star ratings for the facility’s counseling options, discharge planning, and the staff’s level of training and experience.

Feedback available across secondary review sites was more mixed. On Google reviews, where the facility has an average rating of 3.2 out of five stars from 15 individuals to date, several reviewers described the staff as unprofessional. Yet Earlika called the Women’s Center a “good place for me and my mom.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one to have completed a Best-rehabs.com survey found the center helpful insofar as it “Gives people a place to live,” but simultaneously reported “a lot of relapse.” The survey respondent gave three stars for the level of family involvement, as well as a perfect five-star rating for the ease of communication with their loved one.

FINANCING

Prototypes accepts insurance and self-pay. The facility also works with local government to make treatment more accessible and affordable. Per the organization’s webpage: “No client is ever turned away because of financial considerations.”
